Can you believe there was a time in my life when I feared being outdoors because I didn’t want to upset my skin? No worries, those days are long gone, especially in the summer.
I always consider August the magical month since there are no federal holidays, and I consider every day a celebration. Having a calendar filled with outdoor activities, I often worry about the harsh summer rays, the warm but fierce coastal breeze, and the drifting pollen that tends to dry out my skin.
So I carry Aveeno’s Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer. I’m a huge fan of a cooling yet soothing effect on my skin, but ..read more

Namaste. This year is all about healing my mind, body, and soul. I’m always up for a writing challenge, so I start my mornings off with a writing prompt for my mind. I follow this with a brief meditation session to connect to my soul. Then, I move my body through a 15-minute yoga routine. For Black and Brown women, hair is often a source of p ..read more

When I decided to become an eczema advocate, I did so with a purpose. I was in my mid-twenties and felt completely powerless and alone dealing with eczema. I had heard of a few organizations but didn’t know much about them. I wanted to get involved, but there was only one problem. I wasn’t exactly sure how to go about doing so.
Determined to be a part of the eczema advocacy community, I spent my weekends mapping out a plan. By starting small, I was able to join the fight for awareness, funding, and research–and over the last 6+ years, I’ve connected with amazing people and done my part ..read more

Any time I hear someone say there’s “no cure” for eczema, I feel disheartened. I’ve dealt with eczema for over three decades and I don’t think others realize the power of those words. With numerous innovative breakthroughs and increasing treatment options, it doesn’t make sense to keep reiterating that there’s “no cure.” The phrase is harmful, dated, and may not be 100% accurate.
