My Toddler Had a Breath Holding Spell and It Was Scary AF

There’s a lot of on-the-job learning when you’re a parent of a toddler. (Or, in my case, two toddlers!) Over time you learn how to find the perfect sippy cup, buy clothes they’ll actually wear, coerce them to leave the house on time, diffuse tantrums —  you know, normal everyday stuff. But, as I recently learned, you also become an expert in certain areas you DID NOT SEE COMING. Take, for example, a typical Wednesday evening with family. We had my parents over for dinner, all the kids were happily playing, and out of nowhere one of my twin daughters… The post My Toddler Had a Breath Holdi ..read more

We all know kids are little sponges. They just absorb everything that’s around them — from our words to our actions to how we talk about and treat others. (Confession: I remember the first time my daughter cussed when she couldn’t get a snack out of the package, and I was like — whoops — I need to watch my language there!) And, most of the time, here on Fit Bottomed Girls, we share a lot of tips on how to improve your relationship with your body, your workouts, and your food, so that your kids naturally have a positive,… The post How to Build Hair Confidence in Your Kids appeared first on Fit ..read more

When you become a new mom everything changes. Like, EVERYTHING. There are a lot of ways to make a difference and fight for social and racial justice. And, as parents, one of the biggest things you can do is to do the work yourself — and then make sure you’re talking to your kids about it, too. To help with that — and to specifically address the unconscious bias that we all have — we have an exclusive Q&A with the international, award-winning diversity and inclusion speaker and expert Risha Grant. As Risha says: We don’t have diversity problems; we have people problems. “And we have to dismantle the system… The post How to Raise Kids Without Unconscious ..read more

As of today, my twin girls are one. One! And, it blows my mind for a number of reasons. First, this year has gone by so quickly in so many ways … and then in so many other ways I don’t feel like any of us have missed a moment with them because, well, we’ve all been home together since March. Which leads me to the second reason: When I compare the world on the day of which they arrived (which was a time, let me tell ya) to today? Man, oh, man. A LOT has changed. (And, a lot… The post Confessions of a Twin Mom appeared first on Fit Bottomed Girls ..read more

From COVID-19 to fighting for racial justice, right now stress is high for all of us — including our kids. While we encourage you to continue having necessary conversations with your children about racism and COVID-19 often (recent Sesame Street specials can help if you don’t know where to begin — get them here and here), it’s also important to help yourself and your kids to self-care by giving them tools to manage big feelings (and the awareness from us that those big feelings may manifest differently in our kids’ behaviors than they do in ours). To help us with… The post Easy Ways You Can He ..read more

Right now I’ve been craving more yoga. And because school is out and childcare isn’t readily available here yet, I’ve found that if I want to get more yoga in my life, it’s going to need to involve my kids. Which, really, has been relatively fun to do … at least for the first few minutes. My five-year-old daughter and I both bust out our yoga mats, put on a short video, do some poses while the twins crawl around, and then, after about five minutes, my eldest asks to watch YouTube, while the twins hightail it to the bathroom… The post 5 Fun Yoga Poses to Do With Your Kids appeared first on Fit ..read more
