To celebrate World Falconry Day as acknowledged by UNESCO, this is the new President’s address on his election at the recent AGM at Woodhall Spa: It gives me great pleasure to accept this nomination. First of all I want to thank Nick and council for their faith in me. Nick is certainly a hard act to follow; he has set a great example of stoicism and sound thinking. Dear Stakeholders and Customers,   Natural England is today (21 September) launching an eight-week public call for evidence as part of its review of ‘wild take’ licensing – the practice of taking birds of prey from the wild for falconry and aviculture. Natural England is responsible for determining applications for such licences on behalf of the Environment Secretary and is leading the current review with support from Defra. The British Falconers’ Club records with great sadness the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.  Prince Philip was a great supporter of rural pastimes and in the 1950s and 1960s he was often in the company of members of our club whilst they were grouse hawking in the north of Scotland. Currently all field meets are to be suspended pending continued updates on Avian Influenza from DEFRA. The club will keep its members informed through the regions, its website and social media.
