A new song paying tribute to trans DJ and music producer Sophie leaves a lot to be desired, according to the late musician’s many fans. A track on All Born Screaming, the seventh album from queer singer-songwriter Annie Clark – known as St. Vincent – released on Thursday (26 April), refers to Sophie’s death. Grammy-nominated artist Sophie died in January 2021, after falling from the roof of a three-storey building in Greece while trying to get a better view of a full moon. Sophie’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from LGBTQ+ music fans, artists and collaborators, including Kim Petras, Ch ..read more

A US combat veteran has spoken out in support of both his trans child and the fight to protect their rights. Iraq War veteran Eric Childs, from South Carolina, said in a video that he believes his time in the military “was a defence of freedom”, which includes transgender rights. He made the speech on behalf of the Gender Research Advisory Council and Education (Grace), a trans-led, not-for-profit organisation fighting for equality in the US. In the clip, shared on Thursday (15 April), Childs said his goals while serving were defending “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” He went on ..read more

How the Lesbian Masterdoc helped a generation of lesbians like me to come out

You might have heard of the Lesbian Masterdoc. The document is a popular file in the queer community that breaks down compulsory heterosexuality and lays out why you might be, or might not be, a lesbian.  It was created in 2018 by Angeli Luz – who then went by the alias @cyberlesbian – when she was just a teenager, and was first shared on Tumblr as a Google Doc (it now exists as a PDF that routinely goes viral across social media). Many queer women have opened up about how the Masterdoc was responsible for them coming out and realising their sexuality. Reneé Rapp, who plays Regina George ..read more

Bella Ramsey has landed a lead role in a new coming-of-age comedy, largely about teenage cancer – which, to be fair, isn’t exactly a topic that usually generates big laughs. The Last of Us favourite will feature alongside Argylle star Louis Partridge and Bridgerton‘s Ruby Stokes, in director George Jaques’ “surprise” cancer-themed comedy Sunny Dancer. Ramsey will play Ivy, a teenager in remission from cancer, whose parents insist she attends a summer retreat for young adults affected by the disease – forcing her to make new friends at what she calls “chemo camp”. But despite her initial appreh ..read more

Lil Nas X has taken to his SoundCloud account to drop “Trust Me,” his new track about Grindr, sex and PrEP, and it’s everything his “greatest comeback of all time” wasn’t. The rapper released “Trust Me” on his personal SoundCloud account, a few months after dropping his comeback single “J Christ” in January, which hardly set the world ablaze on its release. “J Christ” was the queer artist’s first single in two years, but the chart figures didn’t exactly deliver the “greatest comeback of all time” that he promised fans – it charted at 69. The artist took to joking about the situation on so ..read more

Showrunner Russell T Davies has confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa’s first series of Doctor Who will touch on the character’s “queer energy”. While the Doctor’s sexuality has never been explicitly stated, it was touched on in last year’s first 60th anniversary episode, when David Tennant – briefly reprising the role – said he found Isaac Newton “hot”. Now, with Sex Education star Gatwa set to step into the Tardis for his first full season next month, the Doctor will be played by an out queer actor for the first time. Speaking to Variety, showrunner Davies commented on whether that means that the Docto ..read more
