How can you help to ensure weaning goes to plan, is enjoyable and stress-free? I could talk for ages on this topic as it is one of my faves, but here are a few of my top tips….  Firstly, look out for the signs your baby is ready to start weaning, which normally occurs around 6 months of age. Starting too soon, before your baby is developmentally ready, can sometimes mean weaning doesn’t get off to a good start. On the other hand, starting much beyond 6 months can often make it difficult to introduce a variety of tastes and textures. The signs which together indicate your baby is ready for ..read more

Our very own Haslemere Antenatal (and soon to be baby teacher) Claire Jenkins, talks of her surprise early arrival of her twin boys. “I never really expected for my babies to spend time in neonatal. Whilst I was carrying the twins I was made aware that there was a high chance that they'd arrive early but I had in my mind 36 weeks, so when the boys made their entrance at 31 weeks it was still quite a shock. Given how early the boys were, as soon I'd birthed them they were handed to the paediatric nurses and consultants to check. One twin was taken straight to neonatal, I was allowed a few preci ..read more

This blog will explore what it is, and more importantly how we can deal with it in these current times. Trapped Wind? Spring forward (and maybe even get more sleep) - Natalie from Sleep Rocks

The ‘Spring Forward’ clock change is almost upon us and it couldn't be coming in more unsettled times. It feels like the last thing we need right now, but you know what, it's easily managed if you know how, and it could even help you get a bit more sleep in the mornings as it's a great opportunity to try and 'reset' an early riser.  Generally speaking, the spring clock change is the tougher one to deal with for kids because we lose an hour of sleep. Most kids, especially little ones, are fairly routine driven and often struggle when they lose out on sleep. It can lead to over-tired tantrums an ..read more

THE 6 WEEK MYTH: Returning to exercises after C-section For many years women have been told that their postpartum period lasts just six weeks — from the day they give birth to the day of their six-week check up with their doctor. Six weeks. Let’s talk about that for a moment. Yes, your pain will steadily reduce over the first few weeks and by six weeks you wouldn’t expect to have much pain when performing normal day to day activities. But then you are signed off by your doctor and encouraged to get back into doing exercise again. However, considering that a C-section is a major abdominal su ..read more

Hormones in Labour

Of all the things you learn about labour, all the classes you attend, the videos you watch, the books you read, this is by far THE most important thing for you to learn. Birth is a natural, physiological process. One that is driven by hormones. We don’t know fully what actually kick starts labour, but there is more thought now that it is initiated by baby. But once it starts it is driven by hormones. Our birthing hormones are designed to work in an environment where we feel safe, watch any nature or documentary on birthing animals, at the time of birth they take themselves off somewhere quie ..read more

Relationship changes are common and increasingly so when children are introduced to your dynamic. Triggers for change can be trying for a baby, during pregnancy or at any point after birth in addition to physical, emotional, and mental changes you both might experience. If the changes are making you consider whether to continue in your relationship, it is important that you consider your options fully before making any decisions, and that means giving yourself as much information as possible while also being kind to yourself.  Pregnancy, post-birth changes and breastfeeding can all affect your ..read more

Living with allergic children

So this week marks Peanut Butter day, as a self confessed Peanut Butter LOVER, this is my kind of day, or at least it would have been had I not been living with severely allergic children for the past 14years! There is literally nothing better than hot white toast, with lashings of peanut butter, and if I am feeling sweet toothed, a topper of strawberry jam!! The peanut butter does still sit in the cupboard but it only comes out when kids are in bed, and well out of the way! Our journey with allergies started when my eldest was 13months. I had eaten peanuts off and on during my pregnancy with ..read more
