GUEST BLOG FROM GROUP B STREP SUPPORT It’s important to remember that group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a natural and normal bacterium that colonises 20-30% of all adults (men and women) without symptoms or side-effects. It is usually found in the intestines as part of your normal gut flora. It can also found in the vagina living as a ‘commensal’ – an organism which lives in or on another without causing any harm. It is not a sexually transmitted disease and simply carrying GBS does not require treatment of the woman or of her partner. While this bacterium is normal and natural and does not ..read more

When I lost my first son Toby, a complete darkness descended on me. I had an older daughter and I know people were thinking I should be happy to have her, but he was my son, I loved him, I wanted him. My life became surrounded by grief, I never knew it was possible for the world to just suddenly change colour, it was like I was wearing dark, miserable glasses all the time. I struggled to find joy in anything. 6 months after I lost Toby I fo ..read more

Our Facebook Groups are a place for mums-to-be due to support each other and engage in conversation. Our Rainbow baby Pregnancy group is specifically for mums who are pregnant following a previous loss and would like to speak to other rainbow mamas. As it's well known that mums will often express their concerns with others or search the internet before speaking to a midwife, our groups are watched over by moderators who do their best to ensure that misinformation isn't spread within the groups and that anybody who needs directing towards specific guidance is pointed in the right direction. A recent study at the University of Portsmouth has examined the barriers and motivators to pregnancy fitness. Why do so many pregnant women give up exercise? Previous research has shown that while nearly half pregnant women take some form of exercise, very few do enough to meet health guidelines. Both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and NICE recommend that all healthy pregnant women should aim for 30 minutes exercise on at least five days a week to benefit themselves and their baby. However, the intensity, duration and frequency of exercise all tend to tail off or st ..read more
