This Ottoman/Large coffee table followed the same process as a dinning chair seat, but on a much larger scale. Once webbed, canvased I stitched hessian to the base leaving enough space around the edge to create the role and hold a large cushion in place. Once I had created a firm role with several rows of stitching the piece was covered in canvas until the top cover had been chosen by the customer. This piece was named the Corrina Ottoman and is now happily at home in the USA.     ..read more

In 2007, I decided I wanted to train in Traditional Upholstery. I thought it would be simple to find a course – but with one possible training option some 3 hours away I realised I needed a plan if I was going to make this happen. Over the next couple of years I built my own training programme, found a wonderful upholsterer willing to train me and now 5 years later I have a small workshop in Peasenhall, Suffolk where I combine my traditional upholstery skills, along with my love of textiles and textile restoration skills. Traditional Upholstery has only recently been recognised by some as a cr ..read more

Not usually sad to see things go but because this one nostalgically took me back to my Nan in the late 70’s with her effortless style and classic chic …..I was somewhat reluctant to lug it out of the boot of my filthy VW Touran & into the beautiful drawing room @red_house_textiles #iansandersontextiles #redhousetextiles #ufford #suffolkupholstery #peasenhall #lettinggo #thelittleupholsterer The post A Tearful Goodbye! appeared first on Furniture repairs and traditional upholstery in Suffolk ..read more

Another Ottoman. A private commission – one of two ottomans. This was a simple top cover reupholstery, though I did re calico the pieces to define the shape. The fabric had to be joined as the owner wanted to use the remnants of a pair of curtains Ottaman repairer Suffolk The post Another Ottoman appeared first on Furniture repairs and traditional upholstery in Suffolk ..read more

Well, I had hoped to update my review section every few months. What can I say – I’ve been busy upholstering! So, in the past year i’ve been training and working on average 2 days a week. As I’ve felt more confident with my work I’ve taken on a few commissions at home, which has been a great confidence boost to my new learnt skills. Where am I up to with my upholstery…. Skills and Techniques learnt I’m still learning about different fabric, materials and tools – a never ending world of ‘what’s this’ and what does it do?’ Really, I’m asking will it make it easier for me! A lovely spoon back chair. The photos here show that originally it was upholstered in horse hair fabric. Overall the chair upholstery was in good condition, but the frame needed strengthen, wooden worm treatment and work for the castors. I asked a local furniture maker to do this work, and was really please with the finish. Upholsterer Suffolk I replaced the springs and reupholstered using the original guts of the chair. The owners decided on a grey velvet, which was a real treat (if not terrifying) to work with, and a matching braid. furniture repairs Suffolk The deep back buttoning was ..read more
