Hello, I been playing soccer for over 30 years, I've recently started officiating matches. A few weeks ago, I noticed some comments discussing differences in how individuals accept feedback from a referee during a game, especially focusing on boys vs girls.
I've observed that when addressing male coaches and players, they typically respond by adjusting their behavior. However, I've noticed that when making calls against female players, it sometimes feels more personal to them, and they may continue to engage with me in a way that's slightly disrespectful. I've tried to handle these situations ..read more

For my fellow US refs, how do you get connected with USL and USL2? My state only goes up to USL 2 (don’t have any higher teams in the US soccer pyramid) and was curious on working on getting more connected. Is there qualifications that you have to pass (like regionals) or is it just knowing the right people?

I was center for a U12 match this weekend, Called a penalty on a hand ball. Gave instructions to goalie to stay on line. Walked back to observe and blow whistle when....
Penalty taker steps up and shoots before I had chance to blow. Shot goes wide and I call it a goal kick.
Penalty taker's coach screaming bloody murder that they deserve a re-do because I had not blown whistle. Considering both players were ready, I thought that a re-do was not justified and did not grant it. Coach just kept letting me have it. I told him that if shot when in would he have said a peep, he claims yes. What woul ..read more

I'd like to buy some copies of the LOTG (24/25) because they're cheap. However, the international shipping is really expensive...
I appreciate they're shipping from Switzerland, but if I select USA or England or France, the shipping is about $50...
I'm going to Europe in August, is there a better/easier way to buy them while I'm out there without paying $$$ shipping?

Got my grassroots certification last year (with my 14 yo daughter) after coaching travel for 7 years. It has been quite an experience for sure with ups and downs, but I'm hooked and even working on NHFS certification for this fall.
I have connected with some great assignors and do mostly travel, ECNL, and indoor winter games from U10-U16 although recently did AR a mens over 40 game which was interesting.
A few reflections/thoughts maybe someone new or considering pursuing this might find interesting:

Hey all,
Reflecting on a U10 game I was CR for yesterday. I prefer to do the older games, but my kids have just started so they were my ARs, which is awesome.
I'm pretty sure I had this right, I swear I saw something like this in the Premier League recently. Breakaway by white player, GK challenges, is clearly beat, reaches back and trips up white player who falls to the ground.
Looking back the one thing I may have changed is not blowing whistle quickly, white player possibly could have gotten up and finished the goal.
I call PK, I hear coach of GK talking to his team in dissent but nothing ..read more
