The South African Police Service (SAPS) Border Policing Team, through Operation Vala Umgodi, has arrested 23 foreigners for contravening the Immigration Act at Beitbridge at the weekend. According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the police also seized a homemade wooden step ladder and five donkey carts on the western side of Beitbridge at Marooi area in Vhembe District. As tributes continue to pour in for slain Pretoria DJ, MC and comedian Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse, the football community is also doing its bit to remember him. For an event which had such a profound effect on the history of the African continent, the Carnation Revolution seems a soft way to describe what happened in Portugal 50 years ago. On 25 April, 1974, disgruntled soldiers drove into Lisbon to overthrow the 48-year dictatorship which had been led by Antonio Salazar and later Marcelo Caetano.
