A new survey released last month suggests that the Democratic Alliance (DA) will win over Western Cape voters in the May elections.
The results from the Social Research Foundation’s Political State of Play in the Western Cape showed the DA at 59%, the ANC at 20%, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at 6%, and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) receiving 5% of the vote.
But what makes voters turn out for a specific party? Do they interrogate political parties’ manifestos or stick to lifelong loyalty to a particular party? In releasing their election manifestos, parties set their future agenda, commun ..read more

Perhaps the greatest irony of this life is that the only certainty in it — our death — is itself a mystery. We know we are going to die, but we don’t actually know what that means.

Death makes a mockery of life, in the sense that all our strivings, plans and achievements are absolutely nullified by it. In contradiction, this gives life p ..read more

The United States is not the only country looking at the coming election much as someone tied to the railway tracks in an old film looks at the oncoming train. As the US faces the terrifying prospect of a return to the White House by Donald Trump in November we face the equally terrifying prospect of Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema taking significant power through coalition arrangements after 29 May.
If the opinion polls prove to be correct the ANC will largely be destroyed in KwaZulu-Natal and the ANC will sink to 40%, or even lower, nationally. There is a real possibility that Zuma’s uMkhonto w ..read more
