Context: I've done my fair share of work on harleys but this is my first hardtail project, so I found a low kms '03 Sportster for dirt cheap and figured I'd take a stab. I bought the weld-on kit from Lowbrow, pulled the bike apart, watched the video and measured everything 10 times then got to cutting and grinding.
When I was measuring things up I had the instructions from the website and their video handy and I noticed a discrepancy on the numbers. Written instructions say to measure 1 1/2" and the video says to measure 9/16ths from the back of the top motor mount.

Getting ready to install mids (bike has always had forwards) on my ‘96 xl and noticed this. Kinda looks like it could be a temperature/ cooling issue. Most of the aluminum is webbed outward into the mold.
Do they all look like this or is this cover fucked?

Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help me with my intake leak. Did the carb cleaner trick and pinpointed the leak, changed the manifold gaskets and now that seams to be all set.
The bike is running better, but not great. NOW, it’s occurred to me that I did not re-jet the carb despite adding drag pipes (pictured above). Does anyone know what size to go to for the main jet to make my mixture a little richer to compensate for the drag pipes? As I understand, the adjuster screw only helps with the idle mixture, and I have no problem at idle. I’m getting a rattle and a bog at high RPMs.
