Hello creative community, I am touching base to ask you for some help and feedback today. I have been doing some planning for the year ahead and a project that has been on my list of things I have always wanted to do keeps coming back into my mind… starting a Podcast. A podcast all about creativity.  So I would like your feedback on what you would like to hear from me or what you think I should discuss. (Survey Link is here: https://forms.gle/PNQgFGbbDfQPZW2RA) Firstly – what is a Podcast? Simply put, a podcast is a blog for your ears. Think of it like an audio programme or regular radio ..read more

Why I love linocut cards
Magenta Sky | Printmaking Blog

There is nothing more special than gifting someone a handmade card you have made from scratch yourself, this could be a birthday, a thank you or a special occasion such as a Christmas or Valentines. As an artist and printmaker I love creating new greetings cards using a linocut block – these could be simple black and white designs or complex multi-layered prints. Either way, I love a good handmade greetings card (to send them and to receive them), so in this blog I wanted to share exactly why… Pocket-Sized Pieces of Art Over the years I have held on to plenty of handmade cards that friends and ..read more

And so… I am so excited to finally announce my mini sketchbook challenge this Autumn. I know that may of you love these sketchbook challenges (that I have been running since 2018,) but a full 30 days can be a little much if done too often. Since our last live sketchbook challenge in April 2020 I have been listening to your feedback and wanted to launch something that will keep our enthusiasm for sketchbooks and sketching going between challenges. I of course offer my monthly creative membership Inspire, but that may not be for everybody. I am pretty certain I can’t maintain running a monthly sketchbook challenge every month but instead, I am launching a very exciting monthly Sketchbook Celebration! What is the Sketchbook Celebration? This is a three day online event every month, from the 7th-9th, where we all get the opportuni ..read more

In the Studio with Susan – Episode 7

Hi all, and a huge welcome to my studio. Life in August I tend to take life a little easier in August and spend the time planning and working on my business strategy as well as taking time out with the family over the summer. It has been a strange summer here with the effects of Covid-19 and lockdown meaning that I can’t get out as much as I would usually, and then we have also had some stupidly hot weather. As a typical English Rose I wilt in the heat rather than bloom… I’ve been hiding away in the shade for the last week or so. So in this episode I decided to film my ‘In the Studio with Susa ..read more

Today I wanted to share with you a video that I recorded recently that opens up the pages of my two linocut books Learning Linocut and Beginner’s Guide to Linocut to show you exactly what is inside. These two books explain the process of printing linocut prints but each book approaches the technique in a slightly different way. The two books are a great companion pair and you will see why when you watch the video. If you are considering one of my books but have the question ‘What is the difference between the two books?’ then this is the video for you. Enjoy   The books can b ..read more

As an author of two books on linocutting (Learning Linocut and Beginners Guide to Linocut),  I get asked a lot about what tools are recommended for starting out with linocut. It is a great question as there are so many different types of cutters, brands of lino and varieties of printing ink. It can be be hard to know where to start, especially if you are just testing it out and seeing whether you like the process. So here in this blog article I thought I would share with you a beginners list of all the things you will need to get started. Think of this as a starter kit or essentials pack ..read more

Hi all and welcome to the third visit to my home studio. It’s been a strange time as we look towards coming out of lockdown. For me the impact is that I still remain at home with family, my pottery cafe is shut for the foreseeable future (apart from our takeaway baskets that restart in June), and my work as an artist and teacher is full-steam ahead. The weather has again been wonderful and I have enjoyed some lovely walks and socially distanced excursions out to the local woods. I have had a busy week but most of it actually focussed on admin and marketing – a rather necessary part of any crea ..read more

I have a few things to share today – a list of materials and tools I use, some floral paintings, botanical photos, news about my fabric for sale and re-opening of the pottery cafe.
