My sister and I had the best time this past weekend at The Soiree by Stella Artois – Lovers Edition. I had see the line-up on a mutual’s story and it quickly became the only thing I wanted to do. When I first looked, all tickets were booked out. That very mutual sent me two. Thank goodness for generous bbzes! The event was at Toadbury Hall Hotel all the way in Krugersdorp, so you can imagine the transport implications. The venue was gorgeous with trees, ponds and just hella nature. I get why they chose it. It gave Nirox. The Soiree by Stella Artois Lovers Edition Line-up We saw Zoe Modiga, B ..read more

Review: Shopping Ackermans Online

2023 was a dismal one for me fashion-wise. Not only did all my favourite clothes no longer fit me, I barely had clothes to wear at all. And with me, fashion and my clothes are one of the ways I locate myself in the world. One of the ways I get to feel like myself. So on top of feeling hella naar from being sick, I was also feeling bad because I had absolutely nothing to wear but two pairs of trousers I bought just before winter. I was in hell. I was thinking about placing an order (filled an actual cart) for a while in December. You know how I get about shopping, I had to talk myself into act ..read more

I don’t know about all this love languages talk but very few things make me happier than getting my friends what I have decided is the best gift. Plotting and anticipating the moment they see or receive it? Joy. Unfortunately for me, money means I haven’t been able to do it as much as I have wanted to but tgat too has made tge littke gifting moments I have been able to share with friends that much more precious. We’re loving and romancing our friends as much as we can, right? I thought let me put this together and get it out in time for the first payday of the year and ahead of Valaza.   ..read more

How it feels | 32

I am currently on leave. I need it. 2023 beat me up. As usual, I gritted my teeth through the last quarter of the year, this time holding on for the 10th of January. And it came! Thank goodness. I am 32 now. Isn’t that wild? A mere me, 32 years old. Never in my daydreams, and did I daydream, did I imagine being this age. It’s a blessing, of course. My own little BIG miracle. It scares me. My birthday this year was probably my best of all time. Yes, we went on a staycation for my 30th but it really didn’t feel like this. For my birthday this year, we went to a late lunch and everything felt so ..read more

Showmax Strike Gold with Bae Beyond Borders

Last month, Showmax broadcast the last episode of the first season of their new dating property, Bae Beyond Borders. The show featured four South African women aged between 24 and 31 who were looking for love with Nigerian men. The women were introduced to 12 men on online dates and ended up choosing eight bachelors, whom they would fly to Nigeria to meet and date. I have watched a few dating shows in my time, most recently Love is Blind has been at the top for me. Others of my generation also watch and enjoy shows like Love Island. If there’s one thing that stands out in those franchises, re ..read more

2023 is staggering to an end. I am happy about that. I am not really someone who looks forward to the “new” year because time has ALWAYS felt like a continuum. It’s ongoing! I’m going to be answering a questionnaire about my year in this post, I got it from Nafisa’s newsletter. She’s been answering this for over 10 years! Before we get into the questionnaire, I wanted to give a Christmas update: We had a good day. We got the gammon. It was nice but I’m sure it could have been nicer. It was dry (no we didn’t have a sauce, none of you told me!) We watched Deathly Hallows, of which my sister com ..read more

Canvas Studios by Bash went online a couple of months ago. I immediately wanted EVERYTHING from the collection. When I saw the collection in October, I sent the link to my friend Dudu and then I picked my favs right on the spot and saved them. But then, of course, didn’t start writing the post. But fear not, the time is here! Here’s to living our best pretend-artist lives sartorially. What: Canvas Studios by Bash Bash announced this new line of original fashion, they called it sustainable. From the materials to the production capacity. The clothing line is also said to be small batch producti ..read more

Looking for South African shows on Netflix? I’ve got you! This will feature recommendations of shows and movies produced exclusively for the platform. But Netflix also had quite a robust archive of old South African productions, which it has licenced for the platform — a blog post for another time. Here I want to share some recent watches and long-time favs for you to add to your lists and queues. I’ve left out my most recent fav, Miseducation, which came out in September, because I think I have a review in me. Fingers crossed.   South African shows on Netflix: Queen Sono It’s a politica ..read more

Now you know her as a funny girl on TikTok. As someone Riky Rick handpicked based on how beastly she is on the mic. As thee Adidas girl. But before enguMamakho, Dee Koala was carrying iKapa emqolo. I first came across Dee Koala via a short Twitter clip of her rapping along to her future hit “Ungenaphi”. [Redacted] had retweeted it and I’m sure he was mocking her. [Redacted] thought he was very edgy. She was getting hype over “amajita afuna undimithisa” and I thought that’s lok’shin baby girl supremacy. What else was happening? Karabo was long murdered. Uyinene was missing then found. The elec ..read more

What’s currently on my grown woman wardrobe wishlist

My larger wardrobe is in shambles. I need so many basics from underwear to, like, jeans. Being ill and in a changing body has done that. Sometimes I think about my favourite fashion items I have lost and other times I pretend it’s not happening. But even before my wardrobe decided to betray me, I have spent the bulk of 2023 coveting two simple items. And they’re accessories! Other than earrings, I haven’t really been an accessories person, unless it’s earrings. Let me blog my own horn: My earrings collection has been iconic over the years.   Grown Woman Wardrobe wishlist: Leath ..read more
