Scores, news, and notes, from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Thursday, April 18, 2024. Toledo Mud Hens 7, Rochester Red Wings 3 (F/7)(Gm2)(box) After the completion of Wednesday’s matchup, the Hens jumped all over the Red Wings in the regularly scheduled contest set for seven innings. With MLB veteran Robert Gsellman on the mound, you might have expected a difficult go for the Hens offense. Instead, the game began with an Akil Baddoo single and then Justyn-Henry Malloy and Jace Jung both drew walks. Keston Hiura stepped into the box and absolutely roasted a shot to center field fo ..read more

Photo by Duane Burleson/Getty Images It was no pitchers’ duel in Jack Leiter’s major league debut. The big story for today was on the Rangers’ side, as hot pitching prospect Jack Leiter made his MLB debut this afternoon against the Tigers. He was up against Kenta Maeda, who has been struggling mightily early in the season, so it was going to be interesting to see how the young starter fared against the veteran. In the top of the first, Marcus Semiem gave his rookie starter a hand with a leadoff home run. Corey Seager then singled, but an Evan Carter-induced double play eliminated the baserunne ..read more

Scores, news, and notes, from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Wednesday, April 17, 2024 Toledo Mud Hens vs. Rochester Red Wings Rain washed this one out in the second inning. After delaying the start time, they decided to try and get an official game in, but the window collapsed within an hour and the deluge began again. Keider Montero gave up a run on a single and a double in the bottom of the first, striking out two hitters. The Hens got a leadoff walk from Bligh Madris to lead off the second inning, and Justice Bigbie followed with a single to center. A pair of ground balls from ..read more

Brian Bradshaw Sevald-USA TODAY Sports The Tigers’ late-inning heroics weren’t quite enough to call it a win. These guys again? Anyone else feel like this is 100 games in a row battling it out against the Rangers? Today we saw Tarik Skubal take on Dane Dunning (side note, but doesn’t Dane Dunning sound like the name of someone who invents a theory? The Dane Dunning Theory of Relative Pitch Physics or something...) The game started out a bit tough for Skubal as Marcus Semien reached on pitching error in the first at-bat. The Corey Seager singled, followed by a Wyatt Langford walk. An Adolis Gar ..read more

Scores, news, and notes, from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Rochester Red Wings 2, Toledo Mud Hens 0 (box) Sort of painfully twisted for a Tigers affiliate to lose to the Red Wings on Tuesday night, but here we are. Devin Sweet and Mason Englert combined for a decent spot start, and the bullpen was outstanding. The bats just couldn’t come up with a key hit in this first of six from Rochester, NY. The Hens first scoring chance came early. With one out in the top of the first, Justyn-Henry Malloy singled off pitcher Joan Adon, which is quite a name, and Jac ..read more

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports Welcome home, Casey Mize. It has been an awfully long time since Casey Mize has played a game in Comerica Park, and it was apparent this afternoon he was feeling the weight of his past performances as he wanted to come out and dazzle in front of a hometown crowd. The Rangers sent out Jon Gray, and it became evident through the early innings that this was not shaping up to be a hot-bat kind of day. The Rangers went 1-2-3 in the top of the first, but the Tigers did the exact same thing in the bottom of the inning. The bats were quiet to start the second, but in th ..read more
