So, I became interested in book binding a week ago or so when seeing a Four Keys Book Arts video for the first time. I bought the materials, and gave it a go about 3 days ago and finished up yesterday. Please be kind haha, the thread is really thick, its what came with the little tool kit. I bought some new 3 ply 0.55 mm waxed thread for the future. So, I have noticed all of the resources available in this forums links. I am still confused on what kind of style I did. I followed one of Four Keys videos, but not a tutorial so I kind of just did things by eye, and a little research. Is the ..read more

Utilized a modification of a 3-Piece bradel binding, crafted the spine piece with segmented laminated board and rounded the edges to accommodate decorative ribbons. Printed on Mohawk Superfine, finished book measures 9.25 tall by 6 wide. Fully typeset with two colored printing, with permission from the author. Definitely some hiccups along the way, but overall a success I am proud of! submitted by /u/Phat_Strat [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello everyone, never book binded before but unsure where to start. Seen many books posted here with a theme. Mine would be the following: Victorian Thought it would be great as to have a new hobby, as a child I would often sketch and make silly childish field notebooks. Always wanted to learn bookbinding. Decided it was finally time to invest in a new hobby… For now I believe all I can start with is gaining more information from everyone here, then proceeding to create a text block due to not having any supplies as of yet. Planning on order in the near future. All I have for pages are fr ..read more

Basically, I have a line on one of these for free and I'm wondering if anyone has used this model for printing for bookbinding? Most of the reviews I see are targeted towards photographers (who are clearly the main market for these sorts of things) and this model is also about ~15 years old, so online reviews are sparse to begin with. submitted by /u/crowaii [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Super excited for my first bind. Definitely have some areas to improve but I’m not sure exactly where I went wrong for some of them. I wasn’t careful enough with the glue so you can see that on the cover and the inside corners especially. The guide I was following said to leave some overhang on the end pieces but it looks like it was way too much. The spine is bending and has too big of a gap. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but the front and back covers don’t line up. I’m not sure if I glued them into the wrong places or exactly how that happened. They were the same size when I cut t ..read more

Help with attaching endpapers.

I have to be a little sneaky as I’m making a paperback into a hardback for my husband and he knows my Reddit account. I am at the point I think where I am ready to glue down my endpapers but I feel like I’ve done something wrong. When I layout where I want the endpaper to sit when the book is open, it looks great. But when I close the book, the endpaper starts to jut out beyond the text block. This means the end paper is sliding which makes me feel like I attached the endpapers wrong. Can someone give me any guidance before I glue it? I’m so close to done and don’t want to mess it up at t ..read more

Spine too small

So I was rebinding the LOTR books and at book three I made the crucial mistake that I took the actual spine width instead of the one with the added mm to each side. I've already applied the book cloth. It still fits the book though the spine is visibly too small. Any idea on how to save the case ? I have no other book in the same dimensions and I thought it's a waste. submitted by /u/apple_porridge [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Been working on this technique of attaching a leather spine to boards for a while now. Finally got it to a point where I feel totally confident in the sturdiness of them. These things are not coming apart easily lmao. submitted by /u/quophant [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
