Power backspace issues on a Coronamatic

Can any Coronamatic owners who worked on thier own machine help diagnose my runaway backspace? I picked up a cheap Coronamatic 2500, replaced the backspace hub, got a new old clutch spring, and cleaned off a bunch of gunk that made the backspace cam fixed in position. It still just backspaces, and if I turn on my machine, it’s going to just tear up the new spring. If you turn the backspace hub counter clockwise, it’s allegedly supposed to spin freely, but what is the spring doing? There is also a random hex bolt that fell off when I first took off the covers, the wear in the threads only go u ..read more

Ribbon becomes loose quickly?

Hi, I've only recently bought my first typewriter (an Olivetti Lettera 22) and am enjoying using it so far, but have come across one issue. I have rewound the ribbon spool as the letters were showing up very faint - that issue is now rectified but after reslotting the ribbon as per this manual - https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/OlivettiLettera22manual.pdf - it bunches up usually on the left side after I have typed only a few characters. I turn the spools counter-clockwise which tightens it up, but then it slackens again when I start to type. submitted by /u/TheLetterKappa [visit redd ..read more

I went up the road to an estate sale today, knowing there were typewriters there. There were some in the house, but turns out there were way more in the shed. Ones in the house were $100 each, but the ones in the shed were only $40… even though they were in similar condition. So I went through the shed, found a mid-50’s QDL, an early 5a Sterling, a lower line Futura, and a Dreyfuss QDL with a thrashed case. This one caught my eye, and I figured an Olympia for $40 was a no brainer (Prices are high where I live). All it took was some soap and water to get the grime off and out, and dusting ..read more

Hello all, I'm new to the world of typewriters. Recently, on a trip to Hemingway's childhood cottage (Walloon Lake, Michigan) I couldn't resist buying a Remington Rand Model Seventeen. It seemed like the perfect way to memorialize the trip. I know this is more of a basic model, as I've seen many for low prices. Still interested if anyone has any information on this particular model. Always cool to learn more about history. I wasn't able to locate the exact model on the database I was directed to, but I know there are many variations. Serial Number: J272632 Number etched into bottom: 2-410 ..read more

Greetings! As a fan of the writer Lucius Beebe I would like to own the two typewriters in these photos. One is a medium sized portable and the other is full size. I believe the full size model is a Royal of some type. Can someone help me identify these machines so I can begin the search for an example of each? Thanks much! (I believe both photos were taken within a few years of each other) https://preview.redd.it/kzrlfaeu9nwc1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9023409e260bbb285af42a47f0b4348034391904 https://preview.redd.it/6nq5n8eu9nwc1.jpg?width=371&format=pjpg&a ..read more

My Erika 155

Got this one a week ago. It's one of the newest Erika designs, and according to the serial number, this one was made in 1991, the last year typewriters were manufactured in Germany. I think that gives it some sort of historic value in a way. It's got some blemishes like the whiteout spills on the keyboard, but works like a charm. I only paid €20 for it because i just wanted A Typewriter to see if I'd like it. Almost picked up a new Olympia Traveller C off Amazon, but I got the impression that this machine is a lot better and also a lot cheaper so I picked it instead. So I'm okay with some ..read more
