There are results of adult axial length shortening after 1 hour of myopic defocus. (before 2010) There are results of adult axial length shortening after months of peripheral myopic defocus. (2022) Why not do full on myopic defocus for a month, and see if we can cure myopia? Ethical concern? Lack of funding? submitted by /u/Specialist-Use4845 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Arrested before Residency

I was arrested for driving with a suspended license. Had no idea it was suspended but that is beside the point. Anyway, i'm a pretty great student otherwise: grades, letters, leadership positions, research, etc. Will this affect my chances of getting into ophtho? I was told that it would show up on a background check. submitted by /u/Old-Assignment5830 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Chorioretinal scar

Hello ophtho colleagues. I am a family medicine doc with an eye question. I have a young, otherwise healthy patient who had a peripheral chorioretinal scar identified on routine optometry exam. Otherwise asymptomatic. Optometrist is requesting I send an authorization to patient's insurance so they can evaluate and do further treatment. I am in an expanded optometry practice state, so I want to make sure this is appropriate for optometry evaluation and treatment. My gut says this is an ophthalmology issue, but I wanted to check with some pros. Cheers. submitted by /u/CrookedGlassesFM [visit r ..read more

Ocular Oncology fellowship and career

Hey guys, Hoping for some insight about ocular oncology and career. Who it’s a good fit for, what’s the day-to-day like after fellowship, what the job market looks like, etc. It’s unclear to me who treats what - lid, orbit, intraocular. Seems like there can be overlap with derm, plastics, oculoplastics, retina, med-onc, surg-onc. Are there options to pursue vitreoretinal fellowship supplemented with oncology? I’m not concerned about becoming super rich but it’s naive not to also consider financial aspects of the decision. Thanks! submitted by /u/EyeEyeDoc [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Link to yesterday's post. A contrasted head MRI I'd asked for was scheduled for first thing this am, has not been officially reported yet but the attached diffusion weighted image shows a striking right occipital insult. Recall that the patient had initially reported no vision in his left eye, and that he had been hand motions in both eyes less than an hour after that. His wife corroborated that this morning he'd tried to go to the bathroom alone and walked right into a wall. So yes, he really could not see out of either eye this morning. I re-examined him this afternoon in the CCU. The righ ..read more

Double vision 3 weeks post 2nd strabismus surgery, despite no previous stereopsis. Predominantly when looking at faces. Will this go away?

I just had my second strabismus surgery 3 weeks ago, at the age of 30. I'd previously had it in 2015, at 21. I've never developed stereopsis or fusion, my eyes have always been worked independently of each other. I don't remember anything remarkable after the previous surgery, certainly no double vision. Now, 3 weeks post 2nd surgery, I saw my surgeon again today and he affirmed the correction is perfect for near vision, and about 75% better for distance, and that this surgery was even more successful than the 1st one, as determined by cosmetic turn. That being said, I'm still experiencing do ..read more
