One of my favorite songs is "Diary of a Madman" by Ozzy Osbourne. While I love the song, my intention is to hopefully keep the madness at a minimum while still sharing a Wolff's perspective on life through the years. I am married to an amazing woman, I have two incredible children, and three spectacular grandchildren. Live has been very, very good to me.

After all the waiting, agonizing, and uncertainty I finally saw my very own cardiologist. I guess the biggest takeaway from the visit is “fine”, as in everything seems to be fine. He said I am doing great in my rehab and recovery and is infinitely more focused in the “down the road” portion of my […]

Today is week twelve post-op for me – supposed to be the point where healing is just about complete. Of course, everyone is different so there are no absolutes, but in general, most recovery articles refer to the 12-week mark. As for me, I am healed, but not healed. The incisions are fully healed, the […]

Not to linger on my heart forever, but it was a big deal to me and I find myself compelled to continue to comment on it. Also, I had always hoped that this blog would be a resource for younger men as they age, to help them as they go through much of what all […]

My cardio rehab progress continues well – at least what I believe to be rehab and feel is progress – I have no one to substantiate it though. So I don’t know exactly what I am doing, but I started slow, began to increase time/distance, and then increasing intensity. Friday I did a 4-mile walk […]

Tomorrow is the visit with the surgeon and I am of mixed emotions; I am excited and anxious. I hope and pray that I am healing properly and correctly and fully; that he will not find something unusual or abnormal or “not right”. I also hope and pray that he gives me the 100% good […]

So the four-week post-op moment has come and gone. I am struggling a little less with the length of the “can’t do anything” part of the recovery because: 1) I am now only about a week from seeing the surgeon and hopefully getting the green light to do a lot more, and 2) I am […]

Recovery continues; I paused while typing this searching for an adverb – OK, slowly, well, agonizingly, great and everything in between. I am not thrilled with my progress, not at all, until I stop and force myself to remember that it was just two and a half weeks ago that my chest was split wide […]

It is now Tuesday July 2nd – and I am finally home. It has been a long, somewhat painful, and exhausting six days since surgery. I went down around 8AM and happily, was able to say “see you later” (not goodbye lol) to my wife and daughter. Pre-op was all business, people dancing from cubicle […]

What a day today has been. It started innocuously enough; up before 6am for vitals and weight. Some texts and emails, moved into the chair and ate breakfast (two pancakes and a turkey sausage link). Routine enough. The other day I had been asked to partake in a Phase 3 research study. Here’s the gist […]

It is Monday and I am now in Boston at the massive and sprawling Brigham & Women’s hospital. It seems almost surreal to me at times, like – how did I end up here?!?! It’s been simultaneously as fast as lightning and as slow as watching grass grow. My room is bigger than some hotel […]
