Ive started this post about 6 times. Not sure what to say. Not sure if I should say. How to say. I could tell the story in vivid detail, of course. But, like like many in here I assume, I never do. I avoid even accepting or acknowledging it sometimes. Sure it happened. Sure it could have been different. Recalling is different than understanding, accepting, and simply being ok with it..whatever it is. Here, I will summarize my story. As embarrassing as it may be for me. And trust me, as I finally go down this road of acceptance (not just SDA), it is embarrassing. I'll be 45 this year. East coa ..read more

I wonder if anyone else here is a parent? My husband and I are both ex-adventists. We come from Adventist families and lived the whole Adventist bubble until our early 20s when we finally got free. Now we have a toddler and we’re trying to raise her without religion and trying to teach her to think logically. But it’s hard to know how to navigate belief / religion within our extended families who are still very Adventist. We’ve tried to set boundaries and explain our perspectives. But it sometimes feels like these boundaries are disregarded because of the greater purpose of “saving our child ..read more

(I don’t want to get specific on what schools or jobs.) for those that went to SDA school you’ll know the small ones are often multiple grade levels. So I would have the same classmates for years. I’d literally only see the same people 6 days a week and that’s it. Meaning I never made new friends outside of church. I have found that it is very difficult to make friends as an adult who was not really brought up with a typical childhood. What friends I have now ..read more

The title says it all. When I was a kid, my church would make us do a door-to-door canvass like this once a month. People would slam the door in my face and I found it very confronting and felt rejected. A good way to feel misunderstood, especially when you do that on a Sunday afternood instead of having fun with other children submitted by /u/Due_Objective1751 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
