Right now search the hashtag #sustainable on Instagram and you will get 7.3 million results. Fast fashion brands are creating new lines using #sustainable as a buzz word and influencers are flocking to tell you of their new #sustainable paid for product placements. But is sustainability truly trendy? By its very nature sustainability isn’t a trend, sustainable systems sustain themselves, for years to come. Real sustainability requires far more than coconut bowls and recycled plastic bottle bikinis. It’s requires radical thinking and an overhaul of the systems we live in. A deep understanding ..read more

Lockdown has got the nation in a baking frenzy, flour is in short supply up and down the nation, and many couples have ended up in arguments over proofing times. But don't worry because Marlowe has got you sorted! Since lockdown began, my sister's boyfriend, Marlowe, has become a one man bakery, churning out loaves and loaves and loaves of bread. Each one better than the last. He started off with nothing other than plain flour, as bread flour was nowhere to be found. He's worked the following recipe to absolute perfection, and it's pretty simple. You can achieve this loaf with plain flour, bu ..read more

This post was supposed to go up on Sunday the last day of Fashion Revolution Week. But unfortunately I was unwell, as per, always. Not the point of this post at all but I swear to god I always get ill at the most inconvenient of times. Anyway as this post was about what comes after Fashion Revolution Week, I thought it was still relevant to post now. So What Next? I really enjoyed taking part in Fashion Revolution Week, I met some great people, learned about some amazing initiatives happening around the world, supported some ethical brands that I absolutely love and even fit in some sewing! It's day 5 of Fashion Revolution week, and today is also 7 year anniversary of the day the Rana Plaza factory, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, collapsed. Killing 1138 people and injuring 2500 more. Among the rubble labels of Western clothing brands were found, including Primark and Benetton. (source: Forbes) This 7 year anniversary I am digital striking to say enough is enough, fast fashion retailers need to be held to account. For their continued use of slave and sweatshop labour, for the unsafe working conditions they pay for, and for their destruction of our planet. The human rights abuses of fast f ..read more

Welcome to day 4 of Fashion Revolution Week. Today's theme is loved clothes last. I love this theme because it's all about loving what you already own, no matter where its from. If you're jut starting out on your journey as a conscious consumer, this is a great place to start. Looking at what's already in your wardrobe and loving it. In my case my wardrobe often gets twice the love as me and my sister, Alice, share absolutely everything. So for today's blog I thought I would show you how we share clothes, despite having very different styles, and therefore love them twice as hard! For these p ..read more

Fashion Revolution Week: Fashion Fix

Hello and welcome to day 3 of Fashion Revolution Week on my blog. I hope you've been enjoying the content so far. Today's theme is Fashion Fix, all about fixing and tailoring your clothes to make them last. Britons binned clothes worth £12.5 billion in 2017 leading to 300,000 tonnes of textiles ending up in landfill, according to The Times. Undoubtedly a large percentage of that clothing was repairable. And with the UK's governments focus on STEM subjects, not many of us learn the skills needed to repair clothing. So teaching yourself sewing skills as an adult is a great way to revolutionise y ..read more

Fashion Revolution Week: Who Made My Clothes?

Day 2 of Fashion Revolution Week Fashion Revolution has a question for us all. Who Made Our Clothes? The idea is to give a voice to the humans behind our clothing. And to ask brands for more transparency, about who really made our clothes. Ok let's talk sweat shops. I know fast fashion brands would like us to believe that their workers are all happy, and working for a decent living wage. But the reality is a lot different. "The fashion industry is a significant contributor to gender inequality in many forms, with nearly 1 in 3 female garment workers having experienced sexual harassment in the ..read more

Welcome to Fashion Revolution Week on my blog! This week (20th - 26th April) is Fashion Revolution week. A week dedicated to the anniversary of the Rana Plaza garment factory collapse, which killed 1,138 people and injured many more in 2013. Designed to encourage millions of people to come together to campaign for systemic change in the fashion industry. I'm taking part in Fashion Revolution week as part of Izzy (The Quirky Environmentalist) bloggers campaign. The first blog is dedicated to Why A Fashion Revolution? I decided to write this post from a very personal point of view, but if you wo ..read more

Sustainability - Where am I on my journey?

Little note: I wrote this blog post a couple of weeks before lockdown, but when lockdown started I didn't feel able to post it. A lot has changed over the last few weeks, and for many people sustainability has had to take a back seat. I, for example, am high risk so haven't left my house. Which means I'm not food shopping so I have less choice over what I am eating, plus the food shortages. I know so many people have been even worse effected and my love goes out to you all right now. But I decided to revisit it, made a couple of edits, and realised it was still something I wanted to share. Hop ..read more

Welcome back, sorry for the radio silence on this blog. As some of you may know I have a new job working for Extinction Rebellion, I've also been getting used to this whole lockdown situation, and then I had tonsillitis for a week. I hope everyone is keeping well, in these scary times. I do have some content planned that is super simple store cupboard recipes. But today I've got something a bit more fun! I realise getting supplies can be difficult right now, especially weird ingredients, I actually had everything in except the silken tofu, which sort of shows how weird my cupboards are, but if ..read more
