In this series, I am exploring how Redox can fill the gap between things one would think should be possible and what actually is possible. In the first post, I covered how Redox is overcoming current limitations with bulk FHIR. This time, I’ll be discussing  our capabilities to translate between HL7® v2 and HL7® FHIR®—a reoccurring challenge for many of our customers. Let’s dive in. What does HL7 v2 do? For those who aren’t in the weeds of healthcare integration, HL7 v2 is the most widely adopted standard for communicating data between healthcare organizations. HL7 v2, a data standard gov ..read more

Taking stock of healthcare security: A look at Redox’s zero trust maturity

A traditional cybersecurity model is like an uncooked chicken egg. It has a hardened shell that, when compromised, exposes a soft interior. Once you crack that shell, you are in; you are trusted with the contents inside. Traditional cybersecurity approaches have a firewall or two (maybe even from different vendors in an attempt to prevent one vendor’s vulnerabilities from compromising your whole system), and users are trusted by authenticating into the network. The problem with this model is that once threat actors are inside, they can do almost everything, if not everything, they want to do w ..read more

At Redox, we’re not just introducing features; we’re shaping a future where you have full visibility and control over your integrations. To this end, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of translation sets, a new functionality in the dashboard designed to give analysts more control and flexibility in managing codes and values within any field. What’s the best way for your IT infrastructure to support your organization’s digital transformation? If this question is niggling away in your mind, you’re not alone. It’s a complex question without, it seems, a universal answer. That said, after doing a deep research dive, I’ve come across some great content that can help move your healthcare IT (HIT) down the digital transformation path. Because these ideas are just too good to live on indefinitely in my digital bookmarks, I’ve decided to share them here. Data’s role in healthcare’s digital transformation Healthcare Revolution: Bold Predict ..read more

One of the reasons I like working at Redox as a solutions engineer is that I get to help our prospective and current customers solve hard problems with creative solutions. Something I’ve seen firsthand over the last couple of years is that there is a big difference between what you’d think should be possible (or what will be possible) and what actually is possible. In healthcare, there’s no shortage of such gaps. This is what keeps us busy here at Redox. Over the next several weeks I will release a series of blogs highlighting the way Redox is helping our customers overcome these gaps to uncov ..read more

How to TEFCA with Redox

We’ve been talking about the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement℠ (TEFCA℠) for what feels like ages, but now that it is operational, we thought it was about time we said a bit more. First, and foremost: We are excited. TEFCA outlines a common set of principles, terms, and conditions to enable the nationwide exchange of health information across disparate health information networks (HINs). As such, it provides a foundation for healthcare to overcome many of the interoperability challenges that plague it. Over time, it will undoubtedly make data more accessible and more useful in im ..read more

Optum cyber security event: Redox connections are secure

Last week Change Healthcare, part of Optum and United Health Group, was hit with a cyber security event. As a result, systems throughout the Change Healthcare network were shut down to help isolate and contain the incident. Systems are expected to be offline through at least Tuesday, 02/27/2024. A security event of this scale has widespread impacts. It will likely take weeks for full recovery, but we are encouraged by the level of collaboration we have seen across the industry over the past several days. Hundreds of organizations have leaned in to support one another through the event. Redox i ..read more

2023 set many records. The fastest marathon, the world’s largest pizza, and even the most dogs in a conga line, to name a few. But among the many highlights, a darker record was set— an all-time high for data breaches, impacting more than 116 million individuals. While this isn’t a record to celebrate, it’s a perfect time for us at Redox, as protectors of patient data, to share our best security advice with our current customers and the healthcare community. Redox employs a comprehensive security program that exceeds industry standards to keep our customers and their data safe. We are all pat ..read more

Crystal Ball Chronicles: Reflecting on Out of Pocket Health’s 2024 Predictions

There must be a special sort of vulnerability that comes from an economist staking her reputation on market projections. Or from Stephen A. Smith when he stares right into ESPN cameras to belittle the Cowboys before and after every game (but, by God, he’s been right for 29 years). I’ve never been brave enough to share my predictions publicly. Recently, though, I feel more assured of my judgments. I may be getting smarter, or more reckless, or perhaps a man just loses all sense of ego when his five- and three-year-olds beat him into submission. Regardless of why, I’ve decided to dip my toes int ..read more

CMS prior authorization rule finally crosses the finish line
Redox | The best way to share healthcare data

Two and a half years ago I wrote my first blog at Redox. My debut focused on how the CMS proposed Interoperability and Prior Authorization rule would dramatically improve prior authorization processes with electronic processing via APIs.  ICYMI: It didn’t. That rule was never finalized.   But: There is still hope. CMS just finalized the CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization Final Rule CMS-0057-F, or what many have called the “Interop 3” rule. I provided an overview of the proposed Interop 3 rule last February. Today I will focus on some of the major changes and clarificat ..read more
