If I don’t have a clear skin breakfast that balances my blood sugar and nourishes my body, it’s almost impossible for me to have my best day ever. And during the holiday season, when we are constantly being tempted with sugar plums and magic elixirs, who knows what I will do if my insulin levels plummet and I end up experiencing starvation signals in my body. I don’t want to know, and my skin doesn’t want to know. Enough said. Eat breakfast to prevent a catastrophe. Comment ACNE and I will send you the link to my most popular podcast of 2024, where I share how to curate a clear skin breakfast ..read more

I tried everything when I had acne. Like so many others, I tried different diets, skincare, supplements, treatments, acupuncture, you name it. I was so hopeless and desperate to clear my skin. But clear skin FINALLY happened when I did these three things: 1 I stopped missing meals and started eating protein 2 I stopped drinking alcohol and started sleeping properly 3 I addressed a deep yeast infection and parasites My clear skin journey took me a long time, but only because I was charting my own map. Naturopathic acne experts did not exist, nor did social media - which can be such a rich sourc ..read more

In my 18 years as a Naturopathic Doctor, I have run and read thousands of lab tests. And, most importantly, I have created thousands of protocols based on lab results, and seen my patients heal based on those protocols. Some testing reveals information that helps my patients tremendously. Other tests just don’t cut it. Here are the three functional medicine tests that are not on my go-to list for acne: 1. HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis): In the functional medicine world, this test is not considered to be very reliable. It is used to determine mineral and heavy metal levels in the body, and ..read more

Is the thought of embarking upon a healing journey overwhelming? Does it seem too difficult to make diet changes, do lab testing and commit to some real healing? The real difficulty lies in what you are experiencing right now, dealing with acne. I’ve been there, and I have coached thousands of women who were where you are right now. It’s tough. I remember spending so much time and energy thinking about my acne, cancelling dates, not feeling confident at work, slathering on make-up and feeling unlovable. It was difficult, and I would never want to go back. Real freedom and ease lies in healing ..read more

Acne is actually a complex medical condition, and the root cause of acne is often something that can’t be addressed by diet and basic supplements. The first step is to figure out exactly what is going on. Maybe you have inefficient detox or drainage pathways. Maybe a chronic bacterial, fungal, parasitic or mold infection. Maybe you are trapped in your survival nervous system and your body is not able to heal. Or maybe your metabolic health is being stressed and we need to change the way your body uses insulin. The first step is to watch my FREE Clear Skin Masterclass, where I go into details w ..read more

Having a strict diet definitely helped my acne, but it didn’t solve it completely. I would still break-out periodically, and if I strayed from my diet I would be sure to get a few break-outs in response. So what was going one? 1. Stress – cortisol dysregulation leads to imbalances in estrogen, progesterone, insulin and androgen levels. Learning how to manage stress and re-wire our thought patterns is the secret to ‘magical’ healing. 2. Insulin dysregulation – acne was called ‘Diabetes of the Skin’ by doctors before the advent of modern dermatology. High insulin levels in the blood can lead dir ..read more

When you drink alcohol, its metabolites are so toxic that they literally hijack the body’s detoxification system so that they can be removed from the body ASAP. This means that less toxic metabolites and molecules that SHOULD be detoxified remain in the system longer than they should. Because supporting detoxification is so critical to clearing acne, alcohol consumption really prevents acne from healing. If you are struggling with acne, it’s really a good idea to reconsider your relationship with alcohol. It makes healing so much easier!
