Dodie (or Dorothy Miranda Clark) is an English YouTuber, Internet Personality and musician, originally from Essex but now based in London. She’s a vibrant and sweet artist who creates her own unique brand of soulful folky pop. This isn’t the first time I’ve reviewed the artist either and if you’re interested you can check that out here. Today though I’ll be reviewing her EP ‘Hot Mess’ which was released September 30th 2022.  ‘Hot Mess’ kicks off with vibrant acoustic guitar, the flows into Dodie’s sensational and soulful vocals, and man can she sing, her voice bridging the gap between joy ..read more

EP Review: Djo – D-Sides
Off the Record

Djo (also known as Joseph David Keery) is an American musician and actor, known for his role on Stranger Things. We’ve had the pleasure of covering the artist before on Indie Light, and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing his EP ‘D-Sides’ which was released November 17th 2023. ‘Uglyfisherman’ opens with an almost discordant tone which flows into an frenzied, almost 8-bit game melody, it’s quite striking, and as it fades out and totally becomes what I’d imagine would be the intro theme to some long forgotten arcade cabinet, I’m immediately engaged with this number ..read more

Album Review: Willow –

Willow Smith, more commonly known mononymously as just Willow is an American actor and musician. We’ve covered the artist before on Indie Light and you can click here to read more. Today, though, I’ll be reviewing her album ‘<COPINGMECHANISM>’ which was released October 7th 2022.  ‘<maybe> it’s my fault’ kicks things off with some fast paced strings bolstered by some high energy percussion, before Willow’s voice kicks in, and man does she have some incredible vocal chops, equally melodic and capable of blending in with the thrashing intensity of the instrumentals. It’s really ..read more

Rite Here Rite Now (Reviewed by me, Big G)

How do you review a concert film with a narrative thread running through it?  Not as a concert…I wasn’t there. Not as a film…it’s hardly Goodfellas. Not as a live album…you can’t be sure what’s been touched up in post-production. To answer my question, I don’t know. Here I am trying anyway. This June the Swedish led Heavy Metal Band Ghost released “Rite Here Rite Now”. Their first concert film with a bit of a story told throughout. The film starts with a wee preamble to explain some background info for the folk who might not be familiar. But why would a concert film need any background in ..read more

PEGGY is an indie-pop singer/songwriter and musician from Boston, Massachusetts who blends her love of books and fictional characters into her music. I recently came across the artist on Instagram and enjoyed their music so much I jumped on the opportunity to talk about it. Speaking of which, today I’ll be reviewing their EP ‘DEAR READER’ which was released April 26th 2024. ‘FEMININE RAGE’ has a nice bass and percussion driven beat that has just the right energy and forward momentum to capture the vibe evoked by the title. Throughout the track, we are walked through various famous narratives w ..read more
