Merry Christmas! It’s Been a While

Hello Everybody! Merry Christmas! Hooray for a White Christmas! I decided to dust off the old blog to wish you all a very beautiful Christmas Season and Happy New Year! I’m still trying to figure out how best to use the time I have been given — is it best to write in this cozy little space on the internet — or to focus on the cyber “public square” that is social media? Honestly, I hate so much about social media — including the fact that they have most definitely played with algorithm to mess with our minds and limit Catholic voices. That being said, it is a place that you can find many people ..read more

Turn Off the News and You’ll Discover The World Is Full of Lovely People

Hello everybody! Just a quick post to suggest you turn off the news this summer and spend more time with people in real life. Seriously, that one simple thing could change your perspective more than any other thing (outside of praying!) that you could do. What is news really, but focusing on all the “bad” that is going on out there. They should really just call it “Bad News” and be honest about it. Whereas, if you spend time in the Good News of the Gospel and then go out into the world, you will discover that most people are really very good — at least, they are trying to be so — and there are ..read more

Roe V. Wade and Where Do We Go From Here?
Modern Catholic Mom

Apparently leaked documents seem to indicate that Roe V. Wade will be overturned in the Supreme Court and the fight will be brought back to the States — which most constitutional scholars agree (whether or not they support abortion) should have been the case, all along. So where do we go from here? If this leaked document does in fact indicate the final decision that will be coming this summer, what should we be doing to prepare for it? Politically, we already see various groups working in their states to amend constitutions to allow for abortion for all 9 months, for any reason — some politic ..read more

The Underestimated Power of SpendingTime With People (In Real Life)

Hello Everybody, We are in the midst of finishing up school, plays, recitals and ALL THE THINGS May brings our way, so this will be a short one, but I just wanted to quickly discuss the power of spending time with people, IRL, as the kids say. In Real LIfe (IRL) is an acronym that one will see quite a bit on social media. I remember a time when spending time with people was always IRL — every single time I said “I spent time” with somebody, it meant I was in the same room, talking and eating, laughing and maybe even arguing over things that matter. In many sectors of society, we now have to cl ..read more

Reasons to Remain Incredibly Hopeful (No Matter What Hits the Fan)

Happy Easter, everybody! Well, admittedly the past two posts have been a bit more feisty and “current-eventy” than I aim to be in my posts. I really try to avoid stirring the pot for just the sake of stirring the pot, but there is a time to remain silent and a time to speak. I guess knowing when to remain silent and when to speak comes down to wisdom — and wisdom comes from God alone — so it can be confusing to know the difference. Frankly, it’s way more difficult for me to be silent when I think of all the people being harmed by the lies being pushed on us in our culture right now — the mamma ..read more

What is a Woman?
Modern Catholic Mom
by Moira

What was once widely accepted as simple truth, has now come into question. What exactly is a woman? I mean, if our newest member of the Supreme Court can not answer such a seemingly simple question, what hope is there for the rest of us? Gone are the days when women’s rights were enshrined to protect women — those carrying the XX chromosme — now we have been given the example of a “highly educated” woman whose only response to the question, “What is a woman” was the stunningly absurd, “I can’t answer that; I’m not a biologist.” Alrighty then! I will put this woman (though I’m also not a biolog ..read more

The Woman and Her Seed

At the highest levels of government and industry, all the way down to the swimming pool, you will discover what seems to be an orchestrated effort to completely erase women and their influence in society. I guess as a woman I shouldn’t be surprised. Men trying to dominate woman is nothing new. Look at almost every ancient culture, and you will find women and children being marginalized, their rights limited and voices diminished — but Christianity changed that. As history will testify, the Christian belief in the equal dignity and worth of women began to influence the cultures that Christians ..read more

Murphy’s Law and Offering It Up
Modern Catholic Mom

Well, today has been all about dealing with technical difficulties with this blog, and after three hours I have made zero progress. Zero! As I’ve been unable to connect to an actual human being, it looks like I might not be able to solve my problems. I guess what I’m trying to say is it looks like Murphy’s Law in full force right now. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the pessimism that the Irish have coined into a simple phrase, Murphy’s Law in Brief states “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.” Oh boy! The good news is that with God’s grace, even those in-grained pessimistic tendenc ..read more

Why I’m Always Late and Other Thoughts on Lent
Modern Catholic Mom

Well, we’re two days into Lent and so far, so good. How about you? One of my resolutions for Lent came on a Friday, a few months back, when my 6 year old turned to me as we shuffled into the “cryroom/confessional/people trying to avoid the shame of everybody knowing they’ve arrived late” section and asked me, “Why are we always late?” Doh! It was a perfectly valid question — one to which I had no valid response — and so I just stared into those little brown eyes and replied, “We’re not always late”. Which is technically true. We are not always late. On most Sundays, we manage to get to Mass on ..read more

Life has been very full, as of late — which is why I can’t stay on top of my hopes for a weekly post — which is also why you should sign up for my e-mail list so you can be alerted to when I post over here — I only ever send them to alert that I’ve written a new post, so please sign up for that and I’ll feel much better about my lack of consistency! By the way, I do post almost every day over on Instagram and Facebook. Even though they banned this blog on those spaces, I’m willing to forgive them and keep sharing the everyday beauty of faith and family and home over there — so you can always s ..read more
