Today was our last Guild Day of 2024 and also the day of our Christmas party. We started the day much as usual with work being done on quilt tops from comfort blocks we had worked on throughout 2024. Myrna had demonstrated the Berry Bushel block and one group was working on the assembly of the blocks. I was working on borders for the Squiggle block I had demonstrated while Iris and Moira were hand stitching bindings.
Sandra is working on joining some Twinkling Star blocks, Lorna is joining Berry Bushel blocks and Zoey is machine quilting her quilt from the Beginner Quilting class ..read more

Today was the UFO day for December as well as the make-up meeting from November 19 which we had to postpone because of blizzard conditions. We began our meeting at 2:00 PM with a good attendance. The beginner quilter class attendees had an excellent opportunity to take part in a meeting since they were working on their projects that day.
We finalized the plans for our Guild Christmas party to be held December 17th as well as heard reports on what we have accomplished the past year.
The guild members completed 78 quilts in 2024. One was donated to the Aqua Centre fund raising committee, w ..read more

Well! Wasn’t that a blizzard for you! We were all expecting a snowfall but didn’t really want half a winter’s worth in one big storm.
The day began fairly normally. It wasn’t too bad when 16 members came out to work on our various projects. This was the day when the 57 quilts we completed were sorted and assigned to one of the seven agencies to which we donate. We had an opportunity to view the quilts as they were on display while Judy and Audrey were deciding on what went where.

Our fall retreat was a part of Culture Days in Flin Flon. We had an open house in which the public was able to drop in and see what projects we were working on and view all our donation quilts displayed in the Sanctuary as well as some of the members’ quilts. We also were selling tickets for our fall raffle quilt and had a vendor in attendance selling fabric, notions and patterns. We were pleased with the attendance, sales and particularly the opportunity to purchase needed items for our projects. There was also the opportunity for people to sign up for learn to quilt classes.

Sandra is finishing the quilting of this sandwich using free motion quilting. She’s using a different design for each block.

We welcome our rainy weather! It should help our dry conditions considerably.
We had a good turnout for our work day and as a result were able to get a number of projects closer to completion.
Three quilt sandwiches were pinned, one of which was quilted before day’s end. Several flimsies were in need of borders and are being worked on and some kits were prepared.
The SUN retreat will be held in the Creighton Community hall starting on Friday, May 30. Mama bears Quilt Shoppe will be there with fabrics, patterns and notions on Friday and Saturday from 10 - 4. All are welcome to come and shop ..read more

We had a good turn out for our Spring Retreat. The weather wasn’t great so being inside sewing with friends was a good way to spend two days. There were 21 members busily working on assorted projects, some new, some needing finishing touches , all beautiful.
Lorna was working on a 3-yard quilt which she was doubling in size. These patterns start with the basic design and then show you how you can make larger sizes as well. Lorna started with a main colour and then chose pieces from her stash to make a scrappy version of this pattern.
Betty was laying out the pieces of what look ..read more

Today was one of those rainy, turning to slushy, snowy spring days for northern Manitoba/Saskatchewan. Despite the bad weather, or maybe because of it, we had a good turnout of up to 14 members during the day. Too rotten to work outside, let’s quilt!
We sewed, hand-stitched, pin basted, and whatever else came along.
These ladies were busy hand-stitching the binding on several of the comfort quilts. We now have a mix of hand stitched and machine stitched quilts. The hand stitched bindings are beautiful but the machine stitched ones are much quicker. Everyone has their own preference ..read more

Our turn out today varied from eight to ten members throughout the day. Many of our members are still on their winter break. Even though our numbers were small we accomplished a good deal. As a matter of fact, I got so involved in pinning and making binding that I forgot to take pictures! Shame on me!
Sandra S. was working on quilting a previously pin basted quilt and Moira was hand stitching binding with Evelyn. I was making binding for the gray and yellow Circle of Friends quilt while Bev and Audrey were preparing quilt sandwiches for pin basting.
