Why do I keep on saying ‘suck your abdomen in’ and what do I actually mean? I’m talking about two things - your pelvic floor and transverse abdominus. A mystery muscle! The easiest way to explain the TVA is it’s like a corset. It sits deep in the abdomen and its job is to compress your internal organs, stabilises your pelvis and lower back during most movements. (You can imagine women have lost all connection with their TVA after babies as well as their pelvic floors). But, it’s never too late and it can work wonders for: ‘fixing’ back pain, better posture, strength and ease of living (when yo ..read more

Meat: A Threat To Our Planet? “65 billion animals killed for food every year, and rising” I want to eat less meat but where do I start? A flexitarian diet means eating less meat through the week. You cut down on some meat meals and replace them with plant based foods. Y ..read more

Worried about fossil fuels? If you’re like me, every time you switch a light on you think you’re killing a swan. So, how does an average family in the UK go greener with their electricity and gas? Renewable energy is the answer but where can we get it? Solar panels are very expensive Solar panels sound a wonderful solution to generating renewable electricity for your house. But, it costs a few thousand pounds and the government has (in April 2019) drastically reduced the price a householder gets for selling their solar generated electricity to the grid. I’ve considered solar panels for our hou ..read more

After watching David Attenborough’s Climate Change - The Facts it made me think about all the stuff I’m doing I really shouldn’t be. If we’ve got 12 years to turn things around I’m going to roll my sleeves up.But where do you start? I’ve always read these ‘5 ways to reduce your plastic’ listicles as mere pissing in the sea frankly. Not using one straw or taking a cloth bag to the shops is great for a quick tidy up but it’s hardly going to save the Orang Utans is it? This is a massive problem that needs big answers. So what’s the government doing about this environmental disaster? Very little ..read more

‘Hang on, she’s got her head on the floor over there, why can’t I?’’ “Every week I hate it when she says ‘and fold forward’. I don’t move an inch.”It’s hard not to look around the class and see what other students are doing (or not doing) and compare yourself. It’s human nature. But what you see on the surface isn’t all that’s going on. There are a thousand different reasons why someone else might look better than you in a particular pose. But does it really matter? If someone’s got their head on the floor but inside they’re thinking about what to have for lunch are they actually practising ..read more
