Reynolds Short Form C of the MC-SDS (Marlowe Crowne Social Desirability Scale) Score Groupings

Hi All, For context, I'm currently working on analyzing the data for my dissertation (I-O PhD here). My original proposition was to remove participants who scored "high" on the Reynold's 13-item version (Form C) of the MC-SDS. This is primarily because the other measure (and the main focus of my hypotheses testing) is the Fraboni Scale of Ageism (2005 version, but that's neither here nor there), which is a highly explicit measure of ageist attitudes. My questions are twofold: 1. In the original version of the MC-SDS, Crowne & Marlowe note that a "low" social desirability score falls betwe ..read more

F28, M.S. I/O psychology. Just had an interview for a “Culture Consultant” position for a startup consulting firm. For whatever reason, they wanted me to ask my questions first. 1) ”What does the typical feedback cycle look like and how are employees supported in their growth and development?” Answer: Shocker, consulting firm that clients pay to help with performance management systems does not have a formal review cycle. Red flag #1 2) “If you were to review my performance 6 months from my start date, what would indicate to you that I was the right hire?” Answer: “We are not outcome motivate ..read more

Dear all, Hopefully this is the right place to post, if not, please delete. I have successfully (thankfully) passed three rounds of interviews at a large corporation for a mid-senior leadership role. Now, I will be taking part in an assessment center with an external vendor (no Korn Ferry, but HR did not mention which one). There will be three parts, two role play: Presentation for the board on a complex issue. Preparation time 15 minutes. Conversation with an employee that I would lead. Preparation time 5 minutes. Competency-based questions based on a prior online questionnaire. A few ques ..read more

I’m in undergrad currently pursuing my bachelors in Psychology. I’m on track to graduate next year, and then I plan on doing two years at my same school to get my masters in IO. I’m also minoring in Human Resources. I’m really excited about this path, I feel like I’d be good at it and I feel like I would enjoy it- but I do have a question. Who would hire me? I looked it up and it only says “businesses” and I’m like ok well obviously I would work for a business but which one? Hospitals? Tech? Finance? I can’t find any information and I tried going on indeed to look at who might be hiring aroun ..read more

Need Advice

I am in my early 30s and have extensive background in hospitality (most recently a GM with a large hotel company). I graduated with my masters in IO back in October and feel like I’m having a hard time of getting interviews. It feels like people are seeing my hospitality experience and dismissing me even though the leadership positions I have held definitely relate to I/O. Any advice on what I can do differently to get a foot in the door? submitted by /u/HSHKC [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is it a weird idea to get a masters in I/O psychology without the intention of switching from my current field?

I have been in my current industry for about 6 years and want to get a I/O psych master's as I'm interested in doing research and potentially a PhD later on in life. It's a bit of a weird situation as I'm actually quite happy with where I currently am in terms of job security and pay, but have dreams of pursuing academic research not related to my current field in the future (have spoken with a lot of academics in it and would strongly prefer I/O). I have thought about doing a master's directly into a PhD, but as I have plans to start a family in the next five years, it isn't financially viab ..read more

Questions on People Analytics Path

Hey everyone. I am on the job market after recently graduating and wondering what type of stats I would need to do for a people analytics role. I did not have a crazy amount of applied stats projects during my masters program, but am aware of how to run regressions and what not on SPSS. I was wondering if there were ways for me to strengthen this skill on my own before I started applying for these positions. Thanks! submitted by /u/xidigdayax [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi IOP pros, I have a Big Five test and a normative values. Need help of pros on how to calculate Big Five score in comparison to the normative values. So that the answer to each of the five traits will be displayed like this."Your score puts you at the 2nd percentile for agreeableness. If you were one of 100 people in a room, you would be lower in agreeableness than 97 of them and higher in agreeableness than 2 of them." Original page:https://pages.uoregon.edu/gsaucier/gsau41.htm Here are extracted questionnaire, scoring instructions and normative values. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LFF ..read more

Seeking advice as a thirty-something career changer: I pursued a master's degree in psychology thinking I would use it to prepare for admission to doctoral programs in counseling psych. Along the way, my interests completely changed. ? As my passion for clinical work died, I began to get really excited by organizational development, group dynamics, leadership development, and what seems to me to be topics within I/O. To make a long story short, I declined my doctoral program acceptance (insert uglycries) and have accepted that a career as a licensed psychologist is no longer my dream. I have ..read more
