Is Spirituality a Domain of Whole Person Health?
Faith and Health Connection

In May of this year, my blog post titled Whole Person Health and Our Federal Government expressed my concern that a key government health agency’s model for Whole Person Health did not include a Spiritual domain. I expressed my concern that the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was remiss for not recognizing the significant impact that spirituality can have on a person’s health and wellbeing. I also encouraged my readers to submit a comment to NCCIH to that affect. I’m happy to announce that on August 18, 2023 the D ..read more

Spirituality and Health in the Federal Government
Faith and Health Connection

Spiritual health is not recognized as a component of individual wellbeing by our federal government. This exclusion of the spiritual dimension not only impacts negatively on all aspects of personal wellbeing, but on the public health of our nation and its related plaguing social issues such as poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, unemployment, crime, violence, and suicide. This blog post is a sort of ‘white paper’ that addresses this very important issue and its impact.  It also provides rationale for the recommendations that are offered. Included are suggested actions t ..read more

Faith and Health Connection

Stepping Stones is a devotional that I have received for about 6 months now. The author is Karl Benzio, M.D., a Psychiatrist and founder of the Lighthouse Network. I first met Karl when he delivered a talk about the Christian faith, science and health (link to video of the talk) for the Center of Spirituality, Theology and Health at Duke University. In this talk, Benzio explains a tool he uses with his clients to improve their decision making skill. In my view, he writes about practical matters of mental, relational, physical and spiritual health from a Christian perspective better than a ..read more

With masks now coming off, but offices, and some schools opting to keep COVID hours in place and on-line ordering at an all-time high, it looks as if more time at home, Zoom meetings, and curbside pick-up is here to stay. COVID has definitely tested healthy living in more ways than one.  So… what’s the new normal?  For many people, days seem to pass quickly without getting much accomplished around the house.  It’s much easier to move into the kitchen and graze throughout the day and sit for long periods of time in front of technology working the day away!  Breaks from ..read more

I was very excited to hear about the launch of the new self-paced version of PathWay 2 Wholeness.  After taking the course several years ago, and then teaching the course as a Faith and Health Ambassador, I was truly impressed with the podcast feel of this newly refreshed version of the program. The new format allows you to learn in the comfort of your own home at a time that is convenient with your schedule.  It’s a great fit for people who work, and/or for those of us with very busy family lives. Another way to utilize this wonderful self-paced program is to use it for your ..read more

Faith and Health Connection
by Stephanie Wilkins

Spring has sprung and Easter is on its way.  As new life blooms, new hope arises.  We’ve learned that life is tough and life changes.  Injuries have left our nation in pain, with scars, and feeling weak, but take heart, our Savior is alive and well and He is on the throne.  As it is for many Christians around the world who learned a long time ago to take refuge in our Lord and Savior, God is now teaching Americans how to trust in Him at a deeper level.   Christ’s message of hope and healing is imperative and will bring joy to those who hear and embrace it.  Are yo ..read more
