Forty-two Harriers took to the streets of Washington Heights on Sunday, March 6 for the first in-person NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K in two years.
Unlike 2020’s race which had frigid temps in the 20s, Sunday’s weather was mild and slightly damp. Fortunately, the rain didn’t stop the Harriers from having great races, including a few course records and PRs.
Michelle H, Amrita Ramamurthy, Cynthia Van, Susannah Davies, and Zöe Costanzo scored points for the women’s team, with Carl Daucher, Scott Bartucca, Myles Fennon, Alan Yorke, and Luke Kennedy scoring for the ..read more

Fifty-three Harriers tackled the 50th anniversary of the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 7. Sunny skies, temps in the upper 40s, and about half the usual field size made for near-perfect racing conditions.
Thomas Kennedy was the first Harrier across the finish line in a blazing 2:33:09 (and 54th place overall), with Zack Pollock and Justin Perkins coming in as 2nd and 3rd Harrier men.
Amrita Ramamurthy, Cynthia Van, and Stephanie Hodge were the top Harrier women. Our Masters 40+ women placed 6th and Masters 40+ men placed 8th. Additionally, Stephanie Hodge ..read more

The New York Harriers dominating at this year’s second team points race: the NYRR Harlem 5K Run Honoring Mayor David Dinkins. (In previous years, the race honored and was named for former Manhattan borough president Percy Sutton.) Much like the Retro 4-Miler a week earlier, the Harlem 5K fell on a hot and sticky morning.
A total of 34 Harriers raced through the streets of West Harlem on Saturday, August 14, most of the route heading up and down a long stretch of St. Nicholas Avenue. The course has some rolling hills, the steepest (and most infamous) of which heads up 141st Street. Runne ..read more

The Harriers were more than ready to toe the line at the NYRR Retro 4-Miler, the first club points race since the Washington Heights 5K way back in March 2020.
The team had a solid turnout: 35 Harriers took to the inner Central Park loop on a hot and sticky Saturday morning, in addition to some four-legged spectators.
William Garrity finished in 26:40, technically a PR: “I have never run a 4 miler before (outside of a family 4 on the 4th when I was 11),” he says. His last race was a marathon, so adjusting his pace for a 4-mile race “took some getting used to.” William is “thrilled” a ..read more

Every year, as the team gears up for our spring races, the Harriers tackle a special and challenging workout: Canovas.

Named for Italian athletics coach Renato Canova, the workout is meant to get runners used to holding slightly faster paces for longer distances. It teaches endurance, pace and patience.
Many Harries use this run to test their speed and gauge their fitness ahead of their big season goals, so runners showed up tonight ready to work.
In the early evening ..read more
