27.5 or 29? Which Wheel Size is for Me?

Still stuck on wheel size? Me too! While 29” wheels on mountain bikes make complete sense for tall folks, it’s a tougher decision for those who are on the smaller end of the spectrum, like me, at not quite 5’2” (157cm, to be exact). I have extensively ridden all the common sizes of mountain bike wheels over my vast experience in the sport that spans decades. In 1988, at eight years old, I got my first mountain bike – a candy-apple red steed with 24″ hoops. My next bike sported the then-standard 26” wheels, which monopolized the mountain bike world until 29” and 27.5” (or 650B) wheels started s ..read more

Are you interested in joining our Liv Novice Mountain Bike Rides for women, but not sure what to expect? Below is an overview of what we do on our intro to mountain biking group rides. Feeling crafty this holiday season? Why not “upcycle” your worn bicycle chain into this beautiful ornament by following Heidi’s step-by-step instructions? The first step is to clean the chain. Using bits left over from a new chain install is great, as you just have to remove the factory grease with some degreaser. When using a used chain, try a mountain bike or road bike that you keep pretty clean. I’ve tried using the one off my commuter bike, but the cleaning required is pretty intensive and it always stays a bit grungy (that said, you can paint it later!) Let the chains sit in a tub with de ..read more

Liv’s Tangle shorts have been an integral part of my riding wardrobe this season. Not only are they a fabulous style statement on the trails, but more importantly they are the most comfortable and unobtrusive mountain bike baggies I’ve ever worn. While riding, you shouldn’t notice your clothing or equipment. When everything is right, it just flows and is a natural part of the ride. When you do notice something, it’s usually because you’re uncomfortable or something isn’t working properly. In the past, all of the baggies I’ve tried have bothered me in various ways – uncomfortable fit, too long ..read more

We think these women got what they signed up for: awesome riding, beautiful views & good times. The Sea to Sky Trail Epic was a success! We had four ladies on Saturday and two on Sunday. It was a lot of fun! It was challenging in parts, but everyone survived and had smiles on their faces. I have to say that it was very rewarding to see how amazed and impressed they all were with the views, lakes, beaches, trails and other sights. The Saturday was challenging for everyone, the climbs weren’t easy for some, but the cold rain of the last hour transformed us all into little monsters wanting to ..read more
