✨Presence - it really is the best present. There’s a lot of retrospection and future gazing at this time of year, but can you focus on what is happening right now? ✨Rest - it’s okay to slow down. Log off. Hibernate. Take some deep rest. Perhaps that looks like restorative yoga or maybe it’s a nap, snacks and a box set. ✨Gratitude - gratitude is magic - the more you practise it, the more you notice to be grateful for. Little or big, what are you grateful for? ✨Time - making time for your self isn’t selfish. Put it in your diary and make an appointment to do something you really enjoy. ✨Dee ..read more

Winter yin yoga

It’s cosy season! A really beautiful way to embrace the season is to actively slow down.  Winter means shorter days, less light, colder weather. Nature is actively telling us it’s okay to rest, to seek comfort and nurture ourselves.  Yin yoga is the ultimate slow down. In yin yoga, poses (generally seating or lying down) are held for longer periods of time than other forms of yoga. This target deeper layers of fascia - connective tissue - in the body, rather than muscles.  The enforced stillness can offer deep healing and nourishment. It’s a grounding and calming form of yoga ..read more

A way to make some time for mindfulness

Mindfulness is the art and practise of being really present and in the moment. When we are truly mindful, we don’t worry about the past of the future, we just enjoy and experience life as it really is here, and now. They say yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift, that’s why they call it the present. So what better gift to give yourself as we enter the Christmas rush, than to slow down, and be present. One way you can make time for mindfulness is by going for a walk. Try to leave your phone at home, and either get out in nature, or maybe make an evening trip to loo ..read more

Yoga is a journey and we are all moving through it

I absolutely include yoga teachers in that too. I have been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching for over 10 but I am always learning and growing. The attitude of beginners mind is very helpful when it comes to yoga - this allows us to approach situations with an open mind, playfulness and lightness. We can try, fail, and try again.  There is nothing to lose as a beginner - and our ego doesn’t get in the way as much. It does not matter if we can’t do a certain pose, or things don’t work our first time round because we know we can try again, practice and grow from the experience. I a ..read more

Have you noticed this year that the colours outside are that much brighter? That the birds are signing that bit louder? That the leaves are that bit crunchier? This has been the year we have all been forced to slow down and really notice the changing seasons. One of the things I am most grateful for this year is the extra time and space to get outside. It’s amazing to notice how different things look each month. Nature reminds us that whatever happens some things like the seasons are constants. There really is beauty all around, sometimes we just have to slow down to see it ..read more

Well, here we go again! Sending lots of love to you yogis as we head back into lockdown. If you are hoping to make some time for yoga over the next few weeks, here are some tips on practicing yoga at home: ✨Make space - a yoga mat is a really good way to physically mark the space in which you are going to practice. If you don’t have one, don’t panic as you can still practice without. You might want to use a blanket or towel if you are on a hard floor but be careful that you don’t slip. ✨Set time aside for yoga - one of the good things about committing to a class is that once you are there ..read more

Savasana - the most important pose

The clocks have gone back and half term is here - I know many of you will be feeling even more rushed off your feet than usual. So what a good time to practice one of the (in my opinion) best poses - Savasana or corpse pose. Despite the name - there is nothing scary about savasana - and it’s one of the (if not the) most important poses of any yoga practice. Savasana is the pose at the end of class where you lie down flat on your back (often modified to side lying if you are pregnant). And you just lie there. Be still. Do nothing. Sounds easy, but often this is one of the hardest poses - b ..read more

Do you ever get the feeling of having too many tabs open in your brain? The feeling of business is ever present in society. Somehow we have been taught to associate business with worth. Like we must be busy in order to be happy or successful. And it can be hard to enjoy moments of peace because we feel like we ‘should’ be doing something else. There is a saying that we should all mediate for 20 minutes everyday, unless we are too busy in which case we should sit in mediation for a hour. It’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes, we need to slow down to speed up. Stillness is so important to ..read more

Yoga is an amazing tool, but I know that it’s not always possible to practice as much as you might like to. Intentions are there but life gets in the way! You will never regret a yoga class, but if you need a five minute hand with your wellbeing, there are also lots of quick and easy ways to find moments of calm on and off your yoga mat: ?Movement - if you are familiar with yoga you could do a couple of sun salutations or just gently stretch out wherever you are feeling tension in you body. Or go for a walk / run / bike ride / dance in the kitchen. ?Meditation - find somewhere quite. Sit u ..read more
