Sue's Quilts
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

Today's quilts were all donated by Sue.  She has a friend who just happens to have kids who live here in Eugene so her quilts hitch a ride and get delivered right to my living room.  It sure saves her a lot of freight charges and she is able to send completed quilts.  All I have to do is attached a label. This one is so bright and happy.  I put it in the teen pile.  I have always loved this pattern - it is a great one for jelly rolls.  Sorry, I don't know that name of it.  Maybe someone will leave it in the comments. This fabric in a wonderful shade o ..read more

Back to Happy Block Quilts
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

There are still a number of Happy Blocks to assemble into quilts so I spent some time one afternoon to make some quilt tops from them. First up is this cute infant or toddler quilt made from baby-ish prints. This one measures 40 x 40". I had this adorable backing that fit the quilt nicely.  It has a very fun vintage feel.   This is Happy Quilt #79. Quilt #80 is this cute cowboy/cowgirl themed quilt. Wendy sent in this adorable cowboy boot print.  This quilt is also 40" square. For Quilt #81, I used some precut squares I received as alternate blocks.. The ..read more

Oh Scrap! : Quick Finish
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

Last Sunday, I shared my process for starting a new scrappy strip quilt out of some leftover fabrics. Today, I am ready to share the finished quilt! I am really pleased with how it turned out.  I hope that it finds its way to some young teen. This quilt measures about 55 x 70. There are some great inspirational saying on some of the fabrics. I used this fabulous striped fabric that Nann sent me long ago.  I love this fabric so I have been holding onto it until the perfect quilt came along.  I think I still have enough for another quilt. Now that I finished this p ..read more

Lots of Two Step Finishes
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

I thought I only had four finished Two Step quilts to share today but I was surprised by five. These quilts go together so quickly! I will admit that most of these quilts made with these blocks all look the same.  I even find it hard to differentiate them and I get to see them up close.  So I was really pleased that I received some fall-themed panel pieces to make some of the quilts more unique. This lovely one is Two Step quilt #5.  The panel was sent in by Stephanie.  The blocks used in this quilt all have a food theme to them. Stephanie also sent in these two b ..read more

RWB Churn Dash Block Drive Round Up
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

I promised you a summary of our latest Churn Dash block drive and I am finally getting around to it.  I was hoping I would receive some finished RWB quilts today so I could include them in this post but it just didn't happen.  I will still add a few photos to make it interesting... We received 1428 blocks from 48 people which was just slightly lower than last year (but really not by much).  I have only finished 13 quilts so far.  Many are still in the pipeline at longarm quilters, waiting to be sewn together or waiting to be bound.  But I think we will end up with ..read more

Oh Scrap! : Gifted Panel Bits
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

I was digging around in the panel bits and scraps gifted to Many Hands and Many Hearts and came across some fun things.  I have been needing to make a teen appropriate quilt and this should fit the bill. Here are the bits as they came. The first step was to get everything all trimmed up so I know what I have to work with . I then pulled some matching large chunks that needed using up. I then started making some colorful strips.  I know I want the quilt about 55" wide so I initially cut all the strips roughly 57". I think this is close to what I want.  Now I j ..read more

I have been receiving lots of Two Step blocks in the post so I have been busy making quilts from them. Here are a few... This one was sent as a quilt top by Holly.  There are so many pretty sunflower prints in this one. Holly also sent some nice backing fabrics in her package.  Including this pretty pumpkin colored one.  I love it on the back of her quilt.   If you are keeping track, this is Two Step quilt #2 and measures 46 x 64". Lots of the blocks I receive have pretty leaf prints in the 5" square.  So I collected a bunch of them up and made Quilt ..read more

Finally, a lot to Share
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

Lots of quilts to share today.  Some of these tops are made by me but many have been donated by generous hearts. First up is this cozy all flannel quilt.  I received a bunch of flannel bits, so I cut a bunch of it up into 6" squares.  Janet then decided on a pleasing layout for them. Here is the back.  I don't have a huge stash of flannel fabric but I did have two that had an outdoor theme.  Neither were big enough but I made them work.  Local quilter Laura quilted this one up and sewed on the binding. This one measures 48" x 66" and I think I will save t ..read more

Oh Scrap! : Orange HSTs
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

I found a little bit of time this week to make the last blocks I need for my scrappy HST project. These last twelve orange 6.5" HSTs will complete the corners on the layout.  Now I can finally sew up the quilt top and clear it off my design wall.  I am thinking I want to get out some of my orphan blocks and make a few donation quilts from them.  I certainly have an abundance of them! Most of this week was spent organizing my old office into the storeroom for Many Hands and Many Hearts.  All the fabric is now on bookshelves, finished quilts are stacked on and below ..read more

I am still working through blocks I received for the Happy Block drive.  Soon it will be time to schedule another drive for kids. I really want to get these done - they are stacked all over the place! This is Happy Block quilt #76.  It has castles, princesses, knights, dragons and unicorns.  I think there might even be a mermaid or two.  The little girl in me loves this one.   On the back is Tinkerbell. This quilt measures 48" square. Quilt #77 is all about monkeys! I knew I was going to have to let go of a print I have been hoarding for over a d ..read more
