Churn Dash Quilts #6 thru #8
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

I don't know why this block drive seems to be taking its time to get going.  I have lots of blocks but other things seem to continually get in the way. Quilt #6 is this lovely sashed layout of just large 12" blocks.  There wasn't enough of the red sashing material to sash around the outside.  I still like how it turned out. I think all of these blocks and the red sashing material all came from Nann. This quilt measures 54 x 68". When the front blocks don't have a lot of patriotic fabrics in them, I like to add a patriotic backing. On this one, I put the blocks in ..read more

One More Stix and Happy Quilt #72
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

My focus this week was on finishing some of the Churn Dash quilts.  I will share those on Friday.  Today are some miscellaneous quilts I don't want you to miss. First up is this cute construction quilt.  There are so many adorable prints in these happy blocks. My good friend Jeanne sewed the blocks together and local quilter Cindy quilted this one up for me. All I had to do was sew on the binding. Karen sent in this fun backing.  It really finished off the quilt nicely. This quilt measures 40 x 48" Remember these blocks from a previous block drive?  I ..read more

Yay!  I wasn't sure if I was going to find the time to play with scraps this week.   But I decided dusting is overrated! I made ten more of the scrappy 6.5" HSTs for my scrappy quilt. Here is where we are now.  I really had to dig deep to find enough of these royal blue scraps.  Next up will be some purple for the corners.  But first I need to find some big chunks of more gray scraps. I am really pleased with how this is progressing! What did you do with your scraps this week? ********************************************* It is now your turn to share ..read more

I was really hoping to have a second quilt to share today but I didn't get the binding sewn on in time.  My dog felt he needed to be snuggled more than he was getting. I still had a few more of the big blue starred squares that were sent to me.  So I made a second quilt framing the smaller churn dashes with some red fabric and alternating them with the blue squares.   I really like how this layout looks. This quilt measures 60 x 70" Suzanne sent this blue and cream backing already sewn together.  That can be so helpful as I am pulling fabric for these qui ..read more

Here we go! Catching up a bit on some finished quilts.  I had to go back and make sure all the finished quilts had labels sewn onto them.  I think I am now all caught up. This school themed quilt is the 70th quilt made from the Happy Block quilt drive.  This top was put together by a friend of mine and then Laura did a great job quilting it up.  Laura even sewed on the binding.  I just had to add the label! Two fun prints on the back side.  This quilt measure 56" x 64". Moving on to Happy quilt #71 - this one is all about love.  All of the blocks ..read more

I had high hopes that I would be able to play with my scraps this week but it just didn't happen.  I was busy getting labels sewn onto all the finished quilts in stock - which was about 40 quilts.  And when the weather was nice, I ended up planting some of my garden. I did want to share these awesome scrap blocks I received from Marci.  Aren't they fantastic?! She sent 10.5" and 6.5" square blocks. I think they are going to look awesome all sewn together. Marci says she might try and send a few more and use more of her scrappy strings.  I am sure I will have to mak ..read more

I realized late today that I had not written my Friday post.  And I have three lovely Veteran quilts to share today! This first RWB Churn Dash quilt I put together.  I used some of the 6" blocks for the center and then framed it with the 12" blocks.  This is quilt #2 of this block drive. It is hard to see the fabric on the back, but it is a red black and white homespun fabric I have had for quite some time. This quilt measures 60 x 72". Cheryl sent in this churn dash quilt top.  I love how she alternated the blocks with the HSTs.  This is the third complet ..read more

I had a few more quilts to share but I guess I didn't get them photographed.  I have been so busy lately; I don't always get everything done by the end of the day.  But this pretty quilt top sent in by Amanda was just too colorful not to share today. I am guessing this design uses a layercake.  It looks like the strips were cut at 3" and 4"wide. The fabrics Amanda chose sure made a colorful and happy finish. Local quilter Terry finished this one up for me.  I had sent a medium rosy pink thread - which was a stretch for her.  She really liked it when it was done ..read more

Thanks for all your suggestions last week on how I should move forward on my scrappy HST quilt.  I decided to make some orange blocks for the center and then purple blocks in the outer corners. This week I was able to get the four orange blocks completed along with the six red blocks needed to finish the diamond. I have my blue scraps sorted so I hope to finish the ten blocks I need this week. Before I know it, I am going to have a finished quilt top!  Thanks for helping me move this project forward. ********************************************* It is now your turn to sha ..read more

Log Cabin Block Drive Round Up
Quilting is more fun than Housework...

I know I told you guys that I would share more Churn Dash quilts today but I finished the last Log Cabin quilt so I thought I would compose the round up stats for you instead. Quilt number 17 is the final quilt made from the block drive.  Janet and Audrey did a great job coming up with the above layout using up the last of the blocks.  I think there were only two blocks that didn't get used from this drive.  We will find another home for them at a later date. This final quilt measures 55" x 66". I used a vibrant turquoise fabric for the backing.  I think this is o ..read more
