Nancy–Patsy reviewed this little book, God Thinks You’re Wonderful! in 2021. It is such a great book! It would be a perfect gift for anytime, but it does seem to me that it could be such a special Valentine’s Day gift. God Thinks You’re Wonderful!, written by Max Lucado with cute illustrations by Chris Shea and published by Thomas Nelson (2003), is a very small but mighty book! It is about half the size of a regular book, but it would make a very special gift for both children and adults. It would be great for readers aged nine and above. I, myself, received the book from a good friend ..read more

The Wish Book Christmas by Lynn Austin and published by Tyndale House Publishers (2021), is a wonderful Christmas read that will encourage anyone who struggles with forgiving themselves for past mistakes. It also has some fantastic ideas for things children can do to focus on Jesus at the Christmas Season.  The novel is a sequel to If I Were You. In The Wish Book Christmas the two childhood friends, Audrey and Eve are now both single mothers, living in postwar America. Audrey Barrett grew up in England as the daughter of a wealthy landowner, Alfred Clarkson. Eve’s mother, Ellen Dawson, h ..read more

There are many retellings of the Christmas story. The Promise and the Light, by Katy Morgan of The Good Book Company, is a fresh, youthful take on the New Testament narrative. The story begins before the betrothal, and ends as Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are about to arrive in Egypt. It is told from three points of view: Joseph, Mary, and Zachariah. Mary and Joseph bring the energy of youth, and do ordinary things like tease, stumble, sweat, and get hungry. Both of them react in ways familiar to present-day teens. They struggle with the situations they face, but great faith, hope, and goodness sh ..read more

I moved the Christmas books to the top of the Book Lists. I thought it would make it easier for you to find the books with a Christmas theme that we have have reviewed. Scroll down to find middle grade fiction and non-fiction titles, YA fiction and non-fiction, picture books, etc. I hope Book Lists helps you if you are looking to give a book as a gift. And you just might be. Christian books and books with a Christian world view make wonderful gifts. Their themes can bless a reader long after the story ends. I have some other news. Ann Cavera, a former a middle school reading teacher, has a hea ..read more

Many of us watch a nativity play at Christmas, but few of us actually get to be part of one. Our jobs, our family responsibilities, our health restrictions, keep us from it.  So we watch. And don’t get me wrong. It is a good, good thing to be an audience member. Still, when it comes to a nativity play, sometimes . . .  sometimes, we yearn to be in the scene. It was during one of those seasons for me that I wrote and produced A Shoestring Nativity. I’m putting it up now on the chance that one of you also has such a longing, but you don’t know how to get started. A Shoestring Nativity ..read more
