Tell us a bit about your background and your yoga journey… The very first time I heard about yoga was at a music festival in Northumberland. At the time I was living in a fairly rural part of Yorkshire and so the only class I could find was an hour long bus trip away… but I made the trip every week after that. A few years later when I moved to Newcastle the yoga world really opened up for me. It was a far cry from what it is now with just a handful of teachers but for the first time there was a choice of classes that I could go to almost every day of the week if I wanted to (which I did!). Yin Yoga is aligned to Traditional Chinese Medicine and the seasons. Each season is a different element and corresponds to two meridians and associated organs in the body. Autumn is metal and the lung and large  intestine meridians. Each of the following 5 asanas work in line with these meridians to help you  to find  balance  at this time of year.  Three principles of Yin Yoga Practice:  Find your edge –  slowly enter each posture and feel to find your ‘edge’. Your edge is a place of slight discomfort but not pain. After around 30 seconds you may b ..read more

Each year I take 10 people to do this amazing cleanse. I work with a fabulous and highly experienced Ayurvedic doctor and her team of therapists. Panchakarma is the traditional cleansing and detoxing programme that has been used for thousands of years to reestablish the balance of the doshas in the body and therefore restoring health and vitality. Pancha means 5 (5 different cleanses) Karma means action. The doshas are the subtle energies within the person and when one or more are out of balance, symptoms in the body, mind and spirit can manifest. The 3 doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each w ..read more

Perimenopause can catch us off guard with symptoms that seem to creep up on us, even if we lead healthy lifestyles and practice yoga. I am a yoga teacher but I was stopped me in my tracks by perimenopause. And I’m not the only one; I train teachers all over the world, many of whom join my Menopause Yoga courses because they have personally struggled with symptoms. While many women will transition through menopause with few symptoms, many others struggle and feel a failure or ashamed. This breaks my heart. It’s not their fault. If you have symptoms, it is not your fault. We are all unique indiv ..read more
