Over recent weeks many of us may have begun to look to online spaces for guidance and inspiration whilst we bring our yoga practice into our homes. A practice which supports us to nourish our minds and bodies, cultivate feelings of relaxation and an environment for supporting our wellbeing. This, for some, is likely to be a home practice greater and steadier than any we may have previously experienced. The post Yoga Community in an Online World appeared first on Yoga Quota ..read more

Journaling seems to be having a bit of a moment within the wider self-care movement currently. Sitting and writing about thoughts, feelings and our lives is commonly acknowledged as being beneficial for our wellbeing and mental health, especially in individuals with anxiety or depression.  We all know that yoga and meditation are also great practices, but is journaling something we can add into our toolkits? Why You Should Try Beginner’s Yoga

When I first came to yoga, I was attending the full range of styles my local studio had on offer – from inventive vinyasa classes to traditional Kundalini and everything in between. I was fortunate to live in a city with a great breadth of yoga offerings and a wealth of excellent teachers. The variety was exciting and I was learning so much, however there were gaps in my knowledge that weren’t filled until I took my 200hr training over 10 years later. Winter Yoga

As temperatures drop and the days shorten I struggle to keep my body moving, and skipping yoga in favour of a hot drink and Netflix becomes a comfortable pattern (followed by feelings of guilt for not keeping up the fast pace of Summer). Winter’s approach doesn’t have to signal an end to practice entirely, nor should it begin a self-shaming internal dialogue for giving into my desire to take rest. Yoga is a practice that is enjoyed by so many people. Some people devote their entire life to practice, every day, perhaps even every moment devoted to their practice. If you ask people what yoga means to them, you always hear how it makes them feel. I believe yoga can be an emotional journey, one which can evoke the feeling of happiness. In this article, I’m attempting to link some concepts from the classic yoga text, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, to modern-day thinking, and bring them to life in a way we can all recognise. How do the everyday influences in our lives take us away from our own true nature, and how can Patanjali help us? Let’s explore... Let’s face it; being injured is not a nice experience. But it is one that many of us have experienced at one point or another in our lives. It’s well discussed that active people who participate in exercise are more prone to injury, and yoga is no exception, with injury rates suspected to be up to 10 times higher than previously expected, with new injuries to the upper extremities (arms and shoulders) most prevalent. Using voice and sound in yoga I’m not sure where I thought this course was going to lead me but I knew that it was going to change the way I looked at my yoga practise. Initially the course was about a bit of space just for me to find out more. What I didn’t imagine was...
