Babycrow is a fledgling yogini living in UK. Blogs, like yoga practice, simply reflect a moment in time and are always a work in progress, and babycrow is very aware that many of her thoughts will remain half-formed for some time while she catches up with herself: her understanding of yoga, like her execution of asanas, is changing all the time.

One of my teachers visited me over the summer. It was a bit unexpected, in the middle of a very busy week, but I made time. I wanted to spend time with her. She is good for me. I can feel how my system relaxes in her presence. I down regulate. I’m sure I can ..read more

I had a small gynae procedure yesterday. It might have been ‘routine’ for the clinical staff but it was a pretty extreme experience for me and way more painful than I was expecting. At one point one of the assisting nurses told me to ‘do yoga breathing’ as she could see I was struggling with ..read more

Life in my forties seems crammed with new experiences — which is somehow, and wonderfully, not how I expected my ‘middle years’ (groan!) to play out. I’m just back from my first ever wild camping trip. So many new experiences here: I’m sure there were whole bunch more of little things that felt new to ..read more

In my current teaching I’m offering a monthly workshop at the gym where I teach. The manager is stretching the budget to pay for an ‘extra’ and something which is unlike anything else they offer. I love doing this. It is a privilege. Each month I relish the challenge : how will I choose a ..read more

I’m in a supported pigeon pose, nicely set up and feeling comfortable in my body. There’s the right amount of firmness in the bolster I’m lying across to allow my body to yield, subtly but distinctly over time. I feel sensations change in my body, a little more stretch here, a slight reactive tightening there ..read more

I sat with someone recently and told them my pain, my grief and my confusion. We were outside, always the best place for emotions to be expressed, digested, perhaps laid to rest even. I had chosen the spot, under a tree-friend of mine, where I’d been doing my yoga practice for some days. There were ..read more

Eumorphia Is that a word? I just made it up. The benefits of a classical education ? The opposite of dysmorphia, as in ‘body dysmorphia’, a condition where you become obsessive about how your body looks, the bits you hate, how flawed and imperfect it is compared to how you see others. So what would ..read more

I bought a vegan ice-cream, bantering with the young girl running the kiosk about whether she’d tried them herself. I noticed a same-sex couple kissing on the beach. The old Victorian pier, half burnt-down some time ago, now boasts a couple of hipster coffee shacks and a crepe stall where the slot machines and fortune ..read more

tldr: I did it! ‘It’ being my first running event. I’m not going to call it a ‘race’ because time was never important to me (apart from fervently wanting not to finish last!). I’m just proud to have taken part and to have finished. I have wanted to run an event (race) for what feels ..read more

After signing up for my first ever 10km event (or any event at all, actually!) I drew up a training plan to take me neatly up to the distance over several months. I don’t know anything about running training plans, but this seemed pretty reasonable to me, an incremental increase of distance from a pretty ..read more
