1001 Saveurs de Sauvage is a 100% vegan and gluten free restaurant and is an oasis in Ajaccio, which is a bit of a vegan desert and was a great find.   If we had known how busy it was, we would have booked a table, so had to sit outside and luckily the weather was on our side. The menu changes dependent what produce is delivered and thankfully they had a menu in English, as our French is non existent. We ordered a hazelnut, chard and cauliflower pie and sweet potato waffle with a large bottle of mineral water, as it was quite hot and we were thirsty. The food was amazing ..read more

Fellinis is a modern fine dining restaurant in Ambleside, with a great selection of vegan dishes, the majority being gluten free and I always visit when in the Lake District.   Fellinis also doubles as a small cinema and you can buy a dine and film deal, which is very popular with tourists and locals alike. We were shown to one of the circular booths, which normally seat four, so we had plenty of space to relax and dine. The wine list has clearly labelled vegan wines, beers and non alcoholic drinks and the food menu changes regularly, so you never get bored with the choices ..read more

This recipe came about as I had some vegetables needed using up, so you can be creative with this dish and swap ingredients.   You could use different beans, vary the vegetables, use just potatoes for the mash or even use butternut squash, its a versatile recipe and makes enough for four, so I froze half for another day. 1 large onion  2 garlic cloves crushed 400 g can cannellini beans 1 tsp Marmite 1 vegetable stock cube 1 tbsp tomato puree 4 carrots 70 g sweetcorn Handful of spinach 8 chestnut mushrooms Bisto gravy granules 5 small potatoes 3 large sweet potatoes Oat milk 1 t ..read more

Tiramisu is a dessert I always wanted to veganise, so this is my tweaked version of one I found on the British Heart Foundation website and it is gorgeous.   I used stollen for the base layer, but if you cannot find it be creative and use whatever cake is in your local supermarket. 250 ml custard 200 ml creme fraiche 200 g Stollen Cocoa powder Dark chocolate with orange Almond biscotti Serves 6 Cut the stollen into slices and layer in a trifle or glass dish making sure to cover the bottom of the dish in an even layer. I drizzled strong Americano coffee made in my coffee ma ..read more

I first had this dish at Steep & Filter in Skipton (sadly they no longer do hot food) and I decided to replicate it, so this is my version.  280 g can of ackee 1 red onion  3 garlic cloves 8 medium potatoes 10 cherry tomatoes 1 tsp dried rosemary Salt & pepper 1 tbsp rapeseed oil Serves 2 Pre-heat the oven to 180°.   Peel and chop the potatoes and onion into small cubes, crush the garlic, tip the mixture into a large roasting tin, sprinkle on the rosemary, season with salt and pepper, drizzle with most of the oil, saving a teaspoon for later and mix together ..read more

Joey's Cafe is a 100% vegan cafe in the grounds of Wray Castle and is one of my all time favourite places.   The cafe has a lovely chilled feel to it, with lots of cosy seating areas and plenty of outdoor space with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and Wray Castle, which is definitely worth a visit too. The ever changing menu includes soups, stews, sandwiches, a great choice of cakes, coffees, teas, cold drinks, ice cream and a small selection of vegan products available in the shop. On our latest visit we ordered Bam Bam toast and large America ..read more

I saw this recipe in The Sunday Times magazine, but my first attempt was a disaster, as the fresh dates made the base way too wet and would not set.   I tweaked the recipe reducing the amount of dates but used dried, omitted the vanilla paste as I did not have any and used rapeseed oil instead of grapeseed oil and it worked perfectly. 250 g dates (either semi dried, medjool or a mixture) 80 g crunchy peanut butter 100 g dark chocolate A drop of rapeseed oil Makes 4-6  Put the dates and peanut butter into a food processor and pulse until you get a rough mixture, which holds t ..read more

Earthlings is an organic plant based cafe, offering lots of gluten free options and food to feed the body and the soul.   I originally thought Earthlings was vegan, but they serve dairy milk for drinks, maybe pressure from customers not happy to drink plant milks.   There is a seating area outside for when the sun shines and it is advisable to book a table, as it gets very busy especially at weekend.   I booked for Sunday lunch time with Steven, two friends and their labrador Gordon. The menu has a great selection of dishes, with a daily specials board and an ..read more

This was my 39th cruise with P&O, 37th as a vegan, my first since Covid and second time on Ventura and there have been highs and lows throughout. Ventura Docked In Lisbon In our cabin we had a welcome aboard dietary letter which sounded promising, yet in some areas it failed miserably and will elaborate on this later.   As usual the box of chocolates in the cabin were not vegan friendly, although the champagne was after checking Google, more by luck I guess though.   I asked to swap the chocolates, but apparently nothing was suitable onboard, hard to believe when P& ..read more

Ortea Vegan Collective was our choice for lunch, on our last day in Lisbon on our cruise and it was the  right decision, it was by far the best food since we left home. Ortea is an oasis of calm in the busy city of Lisbon, its so tranquil so you relax and chill out and can sit either inside or outside. We were hot and thirsty so chose a cold lemonade and melon and lime juices, which were so refreshing and cooling. The menu has plenty of choice, everything is made inhouse, including breads, cakes and vegan cheeses and everything is gluten free. To start we chose Root fo ..read more
