Color Differences in Natural Waxes from Batch to Batch If you use truly natural waxes with any frequency I am sure that you have noticed color differences.  This is a natural occurrence in natural waxes.  I just want to point this out because I don't want people to assume that a bait and switch is occurring at any businesses.  Natural waxes have their quirks.  And truly natural products are the quirkiest of the quirky!  And wax color is one of the aspects of being a natural product that can change dramatically.  Why, you may ask.  Well, let me help yo ..read more

Mixing Scents to Create your own Combinations for Candles with Candle Cocoon Scents

Mixing scents is not something that we generally do here at Candle Cocoon.  I am sure that I have ranted about my terrible experiences when starting out trying to create a Raspberry Violet.  Short story - Over 100 tries and ranged from terrible to dog poo to eh.  I now leave the blending to the experts and I just provide the nose and reviews.  It was so disheartening for me.  Even when I found something pleasant it was still just flat and kinda like a mush not the distinct notes that I want.  Not to mention that if you are taking the offering ..read more

Doing research for a new scent isn't always easy.  Climbing sand dunes in Death Valley on the hottest day of the year or hiking into the depths of a bog during Spring ice break are not most people's idea of fun.  But sometimes these are the type of things that must be done to activate the noggin to store scent memories.  Granted some of these occurrences happened in my wild youth and not while doing active scent research.  But the memories are still there and the chances of recapturing these scents in fragrance oils are still possible!  And for me ..read more

For those of you that don't know, an IFRA is a set of catagories in which a specific fragrance oil can be used.  It is created for an individual and specific blend of ingredients.  If you mix or blend your own recipes you would need to create/figure out your own usage.   Most of an IFRA is pretty self explanatory.  If you make scented paper towels you would go to category 11B and see that for this fragrance you could use up to .39% of this particular fragrance oil.   Keep in mind that the amounts listed on the IFRA are the maximum amounts that ..read more

There it is, sitting in front of you.  An order that just seems weird.  In my case it is often accompanied by "HIGH RISK" in big red letters.  With any small business every order is needed and there is always the feeling of "I'm sure it's fine..."  And often it is fine.  But what if it isn't.  You can lose the merchandise AND the payment can actually be withdrawn from your account as well!  And even if you do figure it out ahead of time you may still be on the hook for the processing fees!  So, what do you do? Take it seriously!&nb ..read more

Candle Cocoon has long been known for quality candle making supplies.  We have over 35 years of experience with candle testing.  Soap on the other hand is still a relatively new world.  We often rely on the expertise of our customers to tell us what they want us to add to our line.  We do have all of the IFRA standards for each of our oils but that only goes so far.  The IFRA only gives the amount that CAN be used in specific products not how much SHOULD be used.  And it certainly doesn't answer the question of whether or not a scent will hol ..read more

Teagen has been with us a little over 1 year!  She is amazing!  She took to order packing incredibly quickly and was able to save us all a lot of pain as she was able to figure out what needed to be done without us even having to tell her!  Which is incredibly important when you don't even have time to breath.     As the summer comes we get a little more time on our hands to work on the website and add some new products and update or deal with issues of other products.  Teagen has taken on this task.  Right now she is going through boxes to see w ..read more
