On a recent warm evening, three of us met to photograph urbanscapes at the Cloverdale Recreation Centre and the adjacent Elements Casino and Racetrack. Hopefully three photographers “lurking” around the parking lots, peering over fences into the racetrack area, and photographing the building facades didn’t cause too much worry! While I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was a new area to me, I approached the session as I always do, looking for the potentials. Seeing the details, the shapes and textures, and the hidden gems! Shadows, and in particular tree shadows, are a favourite element in ur ..read more

Welcome to the January newsletter and the start of a new year. A year that hopefully will bring relief from the pandemic, good health, and a creative meaningful year of making art! This month I have been enjoying the Burnaby Stride Festival which celebrates all things art in Burnaby with education and entertainment events. Two events that I enjoyed were the Making Art & Living Artfully presented by photographer Grant Withers and painter Jane Appleby, and the premier of the NB24 film. This was a project where twenty-four North Burnaby residents each made a one minute video showing one hour ..read more

Welcome to the December newsletter. It has certainly been a challenging year with the chaos and disruption from the pandemic. For the most part I remain optimistic as I believe resilience is the key to managing troubles. I certainly will not forget the extensive human and economic toll, but from a personal standpoint, I firmly believe I will look back at this year as one of personal and artistic growth along with the many new, and strengthening of existing connections, to artists. I believe that art is an important component of a healthy community and in particular this year, an important toni ..read more

Welcome to the November newsletter! It is hard to believe another year is nearly done, though given the lengthy pandemic, I am sure we all are looking forward to a new year. I do hope everyone is managing all right, doing their part to assist the control of the virus, and keeping in touch safely with friends and family. I have been busy this month expanding the business with networking events (via Zoom), working on creative projects, and virtually attending my weekly photography club meetings. The recent pandemic related health order in BC has postponed some of my scheduled commercial work, bu ..read more
