Spring is around the corner and I’m here for it! For me, spring symbolizes growth, optimism, and possibility: the dormant trees are starting to blossom, the days are getting longer now that winter is behind us, and everything is more vibrant and alive! For our latest Opalhouse designed with Jungalow collection, I wanted to bring that same energy into all the designs. This collection is packed with bold color, botanical motifs, and playful patterns. The inspiration behind this drop was “an artist’s loft” so you’ll see a lot of my original art sprinkled about in a bright, airy space we think any ..read more

Here in southern California, we just had one of the biggest rain storms we’ve had in years! It lasted a couple of weeks and now that the sun is back, the air is fresh, and everything is green and vibrant, I’m really craving spending more time outside. If you’re also looking forward to ditching those rain boots, getting outside, and feeling the grass in between your toes, I have just the thing (well… things, plural) for you: the latest Opalhouse Designed with Jungalow outdoor collection at Target! We’ve got outdoor seating, pillows, planters, and pom poms in this collection. So dust off those ..read more

Now that we’re settled in our new home, I finally have been painting again. For years I had been painting on small pieces of paper from our dining room table — I didn’t feel I had enough space to add an easel and larger canvases into the mix. But now I have the space for a painting area for myself in my home office and have been painting, incessantly, for the past few months — nights, weekends, over winter break — painting, painting, painting.
I am getting a lot of joy from painting my loved ones, imagined people and scenes, and self-portraits too. Trying to get a good likeness, but also work ..read more

The Entryway
First up — the entryway to our home. (Above and below). I wanted our entryway to feel warm, inviting and happy, so we painted it a mellow yellow (Farrow & Ball, Citron). I like to have welcoming symbols at our entryway so you’ll find hands waving h ..read more

I’m so excited for fall. I can’t wait to decorate our new home for the season, and our latest Opalhouse designed with Jungalow Collection at Target is dropping right on time! This year for our fall collection I really leaned into interesting silhouettes– there are a lot of fun and funky shapes. You’ll find scalloped and zigzagged edges sitting alongside folksy florals and cheeky checks, there’s a whole lotta velvet, a whole lotta fringe, and so many fun ways to layer in seasonal icons and natural motifs.
As usual, the whole color palette for the collection was designed to mix and match, so t ..read more

View from the Waimea Falls Park & Botanical Gardens
I just got back from a vacation on Oahu with family. We spent the week on the beaches on the North Shore, hiking up wild hills, eating from food trucks, playing games and decompressing. We even tried surfing for the first time. It was a very mellow trip and great to reconnect with nature and spend some quality time with people that I love. Below, some snaps from our walks through the Waimea Falls Park & Botanical Gardens and a long hike we took.
I am a *very* slow hiker, and while I hike I enjoy making frequent stops ..read more

Are you ready for this? I am so, so SO excited to share our latest Jungalow Designed with Opalhouse collection available at Target. I’m pretty sure this is our largest drop yet — this new collection is hundreds of pieces that were designed to bring joy, fun, and color into your home. The concept behind this collection is “Sacred Garden.” I think that can mean different things to different people, but what it means to me is that my home is my sacred space, where I get to be unapologetically yourself, where I get to be as crazy as I wanna be, and, well, go wild. In my new book, I open wit ..read more

I believe that tedious tasks can be made more enjoyable if they take place in a beautiful environment, and I tackled the design of our new laundry room with this in mind. The laundry area at #JungalowByTheMountain was relatively spacious and perfectly functional but entirely lacking in personality and vibes — making the chore of doing laundry feel like just that — a chore. I wanted to inject a heavy dose of color and pattern into the space so that the laundry room might feel like a place I might acutally want to be in, like, say, a like a boutique hotel for dirty clothes. Hehe.
A laundr ..read more
