Sometimes you get to ease back into work after a vacation, and sometimes you have to go right back to the grind. This week I had to hit it hard right out of the gate—starting with an 8:00 am conference call on Monday and working through dinner several nights.
Putting my “you get to do this” face on my work week.
While I missed almost everything about The Grand Tetons, at least I had Starbucks to keep me going instead of the Keurig pod coffee we had in our cabin.

The Grand Tetons are breathtaking, made all the more stunning as backdrops to the beautiful lakes. It was the perfect setting for our third national park hiking vacation!
Our cabin view at sunset
Full disclosure: After seeing Cariane’s pictures from her trip to Grand Teton National Park last summer, I told my husband I had figured out our next hiking destination. He was on board and we were able to book a week my daughter and her boyfriend could join us, making it a family vacation of sorts.

We had a few nice mornings this week, but mostly July is coming in hot!
True story!
July Is Coming In Hot!
Since I exercise first thing in the morning, I judge the weather by how it feels when I head out the door with Scooby at 5 or 6 am. The warmest I’ll run with him is the low 70s, and even that can be too warm if it’s humid. A few mornings this week it was in the upper 70s, and on Saturday at was 80F at 6 am, so I took him for a walk and did my own thing in my basement gym.

The last week of June brought August weather to D.C. with 80-90% humidity in the mornings and temperatures close to 100F some afternoons. Still, I was happy to be able to get outside and run, because I also had to spend too many hours at my desk,

Hello Humidity, Goodbye June
Our weather during this last week of June wasn’t all bad, but I just happened to decide to run on the most humid mornings. I runfessed that work was crushing this week, so I streamlined my workouts but still fit in my morning me time. I continue to do minimal lower body strength workouts, get ..read more

It’s the last Friday of June, and while I‘m jammed at work, I’m making time to gather at the runfessional hosted at Marcia’s Healthy Slice so I can cleanse my souls soles before we head into July.

Jammed June Runfessions
OMG, ya’ll I don’t know what happened, but I have been absolutely jammed at work for the past few weeks. I’ve been working nights and weekends and still barely have my head above water. I runfess, I am still making my morning workout time a priority—I need the ..read more

Work took me to New York City for the second time this year, but this time my hamstring was healthy enough for running! The city was bracing for a heatwave, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from running in NYC again. Luckily, it wasn’t too bad at 6:00 am.

Running In NYC Again
I had two mornings in NYC. The first morning I did my “usual” run from my hotel up 5th Avenue to Central Park. I wanted to at least make it to the reservoir. Once I got there, I couldn’t resist running around it—who knows when I’ll have the opportunity again? Garmin tracked 7 ..read more

I felt all over the place this week. My work schedule was jumbled with a few doctor appointments; my workout routine was jumbled by a jacked up back. It was nice to be home after a week away, but I also had to plan for my business trip coming up this week. One thing that remained consistent through it all—my morning date with Peloton.
I took my 6000th Peloton class on Friday!
A Jumbled Weekly Run Down
Another reason I’m feeling jumbled is that I’m missing the structure of the monthly Breakthrough Crew challenge, but this month’s focus on lower body workouts isn’t a good fit for me and my hamst ..read more

Once I got a bee in my bonnet to leverage my business trips this week and try to run in three time zones, I only needed the weather to cooperate. Luckily, it did. I ran in EST Monday and Saturday, in CST on Tuesday, and in PST on Wednesday.
Thank you Garmin for this succinct synopis.
Running In Three Time Zones Running at Home—Eastern Time Zone
Monday: With a 10:30 am flight, I had plenty of time for a short run with Scooby before heading out.
3.3 miles in EST
Saturday: I didn’t feel jet-lagged when the sun woke me up at 6-ish in the morning, so it didn’t take me too long to get out the door ..read more
