With no races on my calendar and the Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo in my rear view mirror, I am relying on other summer motivation hacks to keep me excited about my workouts. Between the Peloton Breakthrough Crew bingo game, RunChat Hunt, and the Peloton strength program I’m doing, I’ve got all bases covered.
Summer Motivation Hacks
The moderators of the Peloton Breakthrough Crew (a Facebook group anyone can join) are so creative, and design fun challenges to keep us all motivated. For June, we are playing bingo. I love the variety and flexibility—even if I never get those 8 hours of sleep ..read more

Last week we made a last-minute decision to do the Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo. I’m not sure why I hesitated so long to sign up, but it ended up being a great ride.
The only climb of the ride—
it was easier than this makes it look.
Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo
The Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo is based in Chestertown, Maryland—about 90 minutes from home. With registration starting at 8:30 before a 9:15 start, we left our house at 7:00 am and breezed across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge without hitting traffic. (The “Eastern Shore” is the region of Maryland east of the Chesapeake Bay ..read more

I am dragging myself out of my May malaise and looking forward to June, and I do have things to look forward to—a quick trip to Boston for work, my son’s move to a new home, and hopefully much, much more.

Looking Forward
The first thing I’m looking forward to is happening today—the Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo! This week I made a last-minute decision to risk the iffy weather forecast and brave the “beach traffic” to do a relatively local Farm to Fork Fondo ride. Never mind that I’ve only ridden outdoors a few time this ye ..read more

For so many years Lawyers Have Heart was the race I love to hate, but with the new course, maybe it will become one of my favorites. You get to run an out-and-back on Memorial Bridge, around the Tidal Basin, and all but the tip of Hains Point.
2023 Lawyers Have Heart 10K Race Recap
At the new venue they had a huge event area set up with tons of porta-pottys (no lines!), various activities for kids, and a post-race beer garden. It was a very festive atmosphere on a cloudy morning.

Happy Mother’s Day! I won’t be seeing either of my kids today, but I will be seeing my Mom, so that’s OK. ?
I haven’t put in any flowers yet this year,
but maybe this picture from a few years ago will inspire me.
Mother’s Day Motivation
What I really need for Mother’s Day this year is motivation. I am feeling blah about everything. Running is good, but my left ITB continues to nag. My strength workouts are fine, but not inspiring. Work is chugging along, but I don’t have any exciting projects right now. With Memorial Day two weeks away I am wishing I had a summer vacation planned, but h ..read more

I kicked off May by taking my 2000th Peloton strength workout. It wasn’t the hardest, longest, or most memorable class I’ve taken, but it all adds up.
It All Adds Up
When I realized I was closing in on my 2000th Peloton strength milestone, I stalked the live class schedule to see if I could make a live class work for a shoutout, but none of my favorite instructors were teaching at a time that worked for me. I resigned myself to my regularly scheduled programming, and ended up hitting 2000 on May 1, when I started my day like I usually do—with a 10 min core class.
At first I thought I should ..read more

I had an unusual schedule this week, staying at my Mom’s one night before spending two nights in Chicago before hosting some friends over the weekend. My workout schedule took a hit, but fitting in my runs was a top priority.

Fitting In My Runs
While I was in Chicago my Mom had a follow-up appointment with her orthopedist and got great news—her knee is healing well enough to ditch the immobilizing brace, start putting weight on that leg, and up the ante on physical therapy. It will take time and hard work to recover from the past 6 weeks, but I think she’s go ..read more
