Since I began sharing videos of Matilda painting on social media, people have been asking me if her artwork is available for sale.
I struggled with all of the factors surrounding that – how much should I sell them for? And what should I do with her hard-earned money?
When you look at one of Matilda’s paintings, you can relive the playful strokes all over the piece. You can see different shapes, animals, figures, even words every time you look at her work. They’re such a joy to have in my home, and for a long time I’ve been wanting other people to have a chance to own her work.
I’ve decided th ..read more

The 90s were a weird time for Chihuahuas.
The Taco Bell dog was “Yo Quiero Taco Bell”-ing his way into our hearts, and meanwhile, Paris Hilton was strutting around with tiny Tinkerbell peeping out of her designer purses. Soon after, Bruiser lit up the big screen on Legally Blonde.
In all of these instances, Chihuahuas weren’t really represented as, well, dogs. They were sidekicks, accessories, or supporting characters.
We certainly fell in love with them, and some fell out of love with them as they became the second most euthanized breed in the United States.

People say Chihuahuas are yappy little dogs… and they’re not wrong.
When your little one is standing as tall as she can, hackles spiked up, chest puffing out with every overly confident ARF!
…you might feel annoyed, stressed, even a little embarrassed.
It’s tough to have to try to explain your little dog’s tough attitude when you just wish everyone could see what a lovebug she is.
On two separate occasions, when Matilda decided to tell off someone who dared walk our path, I said, “sorry about that!” and the person actually said…
“It’s okay! I get it. I have a little one too.”
That really put ..read more

Tiny dogs are especially prone to side effects from conventional medications.
That’s why it was such a big win for Chihuahuas when CBD oil products became legal almost everywhere.
Finally, a natural product you can keep in your cabinet to help relieve pain, inflammation and anxiety, without the worry of over-medicating or causing health-threatening side effects (though CBD does have some side effects.)
However, you still need to get the dose just right.
Too much, and you’re spending a lot of money on CBD – which may make it difficult for you to sustain consistent treatment for however long th ..read more

Chihuahuas are notorious cuddle bunnies at night, so it probably didn’t take you long to discover those adorable little snores.
Maybe they were cute at first, but you had to stop and wonder if it was normal or healthy if your Chihuahua snores at night.
Snoring, by definition, is when an airway obstruction is causing noisy sleep. At the very least, it can be disruptive, and at worst, it can mean your dog is struggling to get enough oxygen when she’s down for the night.
Even so, many dogs snore through their entire life without any resulting issues. It’s something you’ll want to keep an eye on ..read more

Are reddish stains under your dog’s eyes making her look sick and depressed?
If you have a small dog with light-colored fur, tear stains are inevitable. However, there are some things you can do to reduce the appearance of these markings.
Why Do Chihuahuas Get Tear Stains?
Have you ever wondered why larger dogs never seem to have tear stains?
Every mammal produces tears to keep their eyes clean and clear. Excess tears drain down the back of the throat, largely unnoticed.
For small dogs like your Chihuahua, though, those large, round eyes protrude, and their tear ducts are shaped differently ..read more

Does your tiny dog struggle to play with most toys?
Very few of the dog toys available in pet stores are easy for Chihuahuas to carry.
While Matilda sometimes likes big toys that she can wrap her arms around, wrestle and kick, she also needs tiny toys that fit in her mouth. She loves playing fetch, too!
Over her nearly five years, I’ve found a few reliable sources of tiny, Matilda-approved toys that she goes nuts over.
Kong Toy Collection
One of Matilda’s very first toys was a Kong duck, and now we have a beaver and… some other creature that must be around here somewhere!

Remember that music teacher who used to wear sweater-vests embroidered with happy little puppy dogs?
I don’t know about you, but I’m not at that stage of life. Yet.
Right now, I appreciate Chihuahua-themed accessories that celebrate my love of small dogs without cramping my style.
Here is my hand-picked selection of Chihuahua gifts that are maybe a little bit, but definitely not TOO kitschy.

Chihuahuas and other Toy breeds, as well as tiny mutts, are more than just lapdogs. Our small dogs can be very clever and quick on their feet, giving them the ability to perform very well at certain tasks – yes, even tasks that can help people with disabilities.
So, if you see a Chihuahua in public wearing a service dog vest, don’t be quick to write them off as a phony. Their compact size actually makes them great for navigating public places.

Do your little dog’s kisses smell like rotting garbage?
Stinky breath is more than just an inconvenience. It’s a sign that there is something more important going on with your little dog’s health. A healthy dog’s breath is “doggy” but not unpleasant. There should be no overwhelming odor.
Small dogs are especially prone to dental problems because their teeth tend to overcrowd in their tiny mouth. It’s easy for tartar to build up in places we can’t see, let alone reach with a toothbrush.
Here are some ways you can freshen your dog’s breath and find out what’s really causing the odor.
