First Time (Small Game) Hunting

First of all yes, I am a vegetarian. But as someone who has grown up in a remote northern island, I also appreciate the lack of food security, the cultural and indigenous tradition, and the value of self-sufficiency. That in mind, I don’t have a hunting license so I was really just along for the adventure! We were on our way back from a weekend at the cabin and decided to adventure our way back, starting near Clarenville, then heading down the Burin highway and exploring between Placentia and Long Harbour. It was a long day in the woods, from dawn until dusk, but it came with so many lessons l ..read more

County Liberty Visit

I’ve been shooting for County Liberty, an outdoor lifestyle brand out of New Brunswick, for a few years now, so when founder Sawyer Hannay told me he was coming to town I was super pumped! And may have loaded him down with a year’s supply of suggestions for places to shoot and eat haha. I met up with him and his crew, photographers Gab Boivin @boivingab and Zach Lakes @zachlakesphotography and model Myriam Fournier @myriamfournier, at Quidi Vidi and we hiked to the edge of the gut. I will never get tired of seeing peoples’ reactions to a particularly wild Newfoundland coast for the first time ..read more

This was the best day. I was passing through Halifax and reached out to Sydney MacLennan, who is an awesome photographer and wonderful human and I had been following for ages on instagram, to see if she wanted to meet up and go shooting. Sydney picked me up at some outrageous hour and we headed south along the coast to this magical little rocky area around sunrise. So in love with the tones in this place!!  Check out Sydney's work: insta / website ..read more

Bonavista Adventure Tours - Beach Forage and Boil Up

On a gorgeous summer morning I met up with the lovely Bonnie of Bonavista Adventure Tours and she took me on a Beach Forage and Boil-Up tour. This is not your average tour company - they specialize in local practices and foodways. We explored the area around Birchy Cove, foraging some of the greens growing on the hillside, river and on the beach. Bonnie’s local knowledge of the area and its edible plants was super interesting and we chatted about modern rurality in Newfoundland while she got the fire going. Bonnie gathered mint leaves from the river and started us off with a cup of fresh mint ..read more

These two are the best. We first met back in 2017 at Toni + Joey’s wedding, and did one of my fave ever engagement sessions later that year at their favourite campground. There were canoes and pastries and their amazing pup Hallie. Their wedding was just as adventurous and amazing. These two are super creative and crafty folks, and they MADE pretty much everything for the wedding - from wood tie pins and evergreen sapling party favours to some of the actual most amazing cupcakes I have ever had. They were married at Marble Mountain, one of my fave venues on the island, and then we all hopped i ..read more
