Oh hey. Who is that super cute officiant conducting this elopement ceremony? It’s me, yall!  On this chilly winter day almost a year ago, Meg and Ryan were set to get married in a Manhattan Marriage Bureau wedding. We didn’t know at the time why the line was shockingly long. I have been a photographer for City Hall weddings for ten years and been to City Hall dozens of times, and have never seen a line like this day. Not when we got marriage equality in New York State, not on any Valentines Day, and not even on that one day when all the computers went down and they were issuing marriage l ..read more

Microwedding in Brooklyn Heights | Alison & Tony

Alison and Tony are both from the Atlanta area, and live in Brooklyn Heights with a rescue mix named Temaki. COVID changed their wedding plans to a Brooklyn microwedding, and they still managed to celebrate in an elegant, Black tie style. The day started in Alison’s hotel room in Manhattan, where she did her own hair and makeup and got dressed in her perfect Watters gown with the help of her best friend. We took a few portraits in the pretty light before traveling via taxi back to their apartment in Brooklyn Heights. After a few funny phone calls from the stairwell, we coordinated with ..read more

Elopement on the Brooklyn Waterfront | Alan & Katie

Kate and Allan were planning a larger wedding for this day, in her hometown in Arizona, but the global situation forced them to stay local to their Downtown Brooklyn home. They kept the date, and swapped their big wedding for a micro-wedding on the Brooklyn Waterfront. Joining them were a handful of friends and family, as well as Benny, their Chihuahua Shih Tzu mix dog who donned a tux for the occasion. We photographed in places around DUMBO that were sentimental to them, and finished with a ceremony on the water front at sunset. Because it’s 2020, they had their laptop out to broadcast their ..read more

Andrew and Melissa started as colleagues, then turned into friends, and finally started dating in 2018. They quickly concluded it was the “real deal”! Last year, they moved from the Upper West Side, to a beautiful wooded home in New Jersey. They planned to return to Manhattan for their wedding in April of 2020, but COVID ruined that plan. Fortunately, their New Jersey home served as the perfect backdrop for a backyard micro wedding for a tiny handful of family and friends in June. They said of their wedding: “We are so excited about being able to share this moment and our home with the people ..read more

Today is Friday, the 8th of May, and as of TODAY you can get a marriage license virtually in New York State for the first time ever. The New York City Marriage Bureau has been closed since the 20th of March, meaning couples could not get a marriage license here. This was obviously sad for couples, and the New York Times reached out to me for a story about not being able to get a marriage license due to COVID-19 {paywall}. Now you can, thanks to Project Cupid, which allows couples in New York State to get marriage licenses virtually for the first time in the state’s history. You can also be ma ..read more

20 March 2020 The world feels upended. Lots of couples, both who have booked me for wedding photography and those who are considering, are wondering what to do about their weddings. In addition, the Marriage Bureau in NYC is shut down indefinitely, and they are not issuing marriage licenses in any way, which is adding to the feeling of chaos and heartbreak. I had to make a decision with these facts, which is I’m not booking any more events before September 2020. As a business owner with a small child, as an artist who absolutely loves weddings, and as someone who is just getting back after a ..read more

The Pink Moon Wedding in Brooklyn

This Brooklyn wedding is straight out of a rom-com, with a The Pink Moon in Gowanus as the ceremony venue; and a pizza parlor, Table 87 across the street, for the reception. In between, we took photos on the streets of Park Slope, using iconic brownstones as the perfect backdrop. Back in February, I wandered into Rebecca Shepherd’s flower shop, only three blocks away from my apartment in Brooklyn, to have an arrangement made and sent to a friend. While in the space, I commented to Rebecca herself, who I’d met a few years prior at an industry event, that it would be amazing venue for an intimat ..read more

Amanda and I met at a birthday party in 2013. We chatted until I had to leave; I was headed to what would be a horrible date. A few boyfriends between us, and we finally both met very, very nice men who like whisky, second-hand books, vintage records, and live jazz.  She plays piano, makes the best tater tot casserole ever (she’s from the midwest) and we’ve gotten into a years-long habit of going to spin class together followed by coffee in our local Brooklyn coffee shop, along with conversation that ranges from makeup to world news.  Guy speaks French and Creole in addition to English, and o ..read more
