Buying a house with a dodgey wall

Hi guys, just looking some advice on a property I’m interested in. I’ll keep it brief. I’m potentially putting an offer down on an end terrace property. There seems to have been a neighbouring house on the other side at one time or another. A new wall has been added but to me looks a bit conspicuous. Has anyone any experience with this? I’m concerned it hasn’t followed building code or will cost me to repair / rebuild if it isn’t structurally sound. Am I allowed to even do this if it isn’t technically on my land? I’ll have a survey completed before purchase but was interested to hear everyone ..read more

Sorry if posting in the wrong sub. I am a FTB and in the process of buying a new build from a housing association (shared ownership 25%) in London, part the way through the process however not finalised. Given the shitstorm that is about to hit the economy and property market, would I be better off sacking this purchase off and waiting for something better next year? I have thought of getting the housing association to put everything on hold until, at least, lockdown is lifted. But I doubt that will be sufficient time to see any fall in property prices? A bit of background, I have a fairly st ..read more

Deal Sourcing

Is deal sourcing a thing or is it just another YouTube MLM scam that is around, a bit like Forex trading. I have seen a few of the videos put out there and seen on Gumtree a lot of adverts of people charging £5,000 for a "finders fee" for properties, but it does seem a bit of a weird concept. So, is it legit and do people make money from it or is it just another trend in people wanting get rich quick schemes submitted by /u/tp3753 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do selling prices compare to asking prices?

I'm trying to work out how much money to argue for in a divorce settlement, which means that I need to decide now how much I'll want to spend on a property in about six months. I've looked at properties online, and I've got an idea of the asking price of the sort of place I'm after. So based on that, how much should I expect to have to spend? I realise that if we're talking about an individual transaction, this is a meaningless question — it depends on what the seller really wanted and what you can negotiate — but for setting a budget this far out it would be useful to know what typically hap ..read more

Not sure if this is the right sub but hey ho. My girlfriend and I both currently live with our parents but want to get a place together, I earn around 18-20k a year and when she gets a job after this year of uni I suspespt she'll earn around the same. My question is, is it possible for us to save for us to get a mortgage on a small flat instead of renting one so that we're not wasting money on rent and have the availability to possibly rent out our mortgaged property in a couple years when we want to move on? Is this viable and what would we need to make this happen, we both have help to buy ..read more

Hi there We've paid off our current mortgage but need to borrow £40,000 to purchase a new home (the rest will be paid in savings). Can you advise the cheapest way to do this? We will be able to repay the £40,000 once we have sold our current property this time next year. Thanks submitted by /u/SomeMoreRice [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
