Ultra runner’s amazing quest comes full circle. Many runners feel a particular connection to a particular race – a blind runner recently married her guide after the pair bonded at Southport’s Hesketh Park Parkrun (congratulations, Kelly and Mike!) while Radio Two’s Vernon Kay is currently ultra-running through the rain to his beloved Bolton Wanderers – but an Oxfordshire company director will soon answer a truly unique calling. Grant Smith, 44, from Witney, is off to Egypt to compete in the Half Marathon Des Sables (HMDS,) wherein he will run three marathons in four days in the Fayoum Desert ..read more

Staged on Saturday / Sunday July 15/16, this weekend provides something completely different. (Last year’s event was staged in May, with woods carpeted with bluebells making for amazing images – bluebells photo credit to Mick Hall p ..read more

Wye not give this a go? Something very special is on offer on Sunday July 16 with the Wye Valley Tunnel Run offering a run through a disused railway tunnel, over 1km long. Races are staged in 6km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon lengths, with all running out and back through the tunnel. All routes make use of a former railway line, which means almost completely flat terrain and some very pleasing tree cover, with longer routes adding some attractive riverside paths. The half marathon and marathon routes turn around at the Old Station, Tintern, a converted Victorian building within a begu ..read more
