Green Card no longer required for driving in the EU
Post-Brexit, it had previously been a mandatory requirement to have a green card to drive in the EU. It was used as a way to prove that your car was insured to drive abroad. However, after a new ruling a green card will no longer be necessary. The rule came into force on August 2nd and will be applicable to both personal and commercial vehicle users.
It will help reduce bureaucracy for drivers and road hauliers travelling between the UK and EU and is welcome news for many motorists.

Biggest fuel rise in 5 years
The price of fuel has hit its highest point in 5 years and has soared by almost 20% in a year. At an average of £1.30 per litre, it is 22p per litre more expensive than this time last year. This has left motorists paying £8 more for a full tank.
It is claimed fuel retailers could be charging more to make up for lost sales during the pandemic. However, the speed of the price rises at a time when drivers are beginning to travel much longer distances is an unwanted post-lockdown shock for motorists.

More than 90,000 drivers on the brink of losing their licences
New DVLA figures show that Britain has over 90,000 motorists with between 9 and 11 points on their licence. Consequently, all of these motorists are just one offence away from having their licence taken away.
Any motorists who accrue more than 12 points on their licence at a given time face a ban. In turn, anyone currently on 9 points or more is one simple three point speeding offence away from this. Scam DVLA messages
The consumer watchdog Which? has warned drivers should be extra vigilant in detecting a new scam that poses as the DVLA to request personal details.
The scam involves a fraudulent text message which falsely tells motorists their vehicle tax has expired. It also claims the DVLA has been trying to contact them. In a common trick used by fraudsters, the message includes a hyperlink containing ‘gov.uk’ which prompts people to click on it to take action. Unfortunately many people mistakenly believe the message is real when they see this.

In welcome news to the motoring industry, car dealerships will open on April 12th. You will now be free to visit a showroom to look at a car, test drive it, configure it and buy it. There will now of course be be strict social distancing in place and you will be required to wear a face mask. Test drives will also be expected to be taken alone.
