My name is Joey Ayoub. I am working on transforming this blog to a more organised one. It will keep its focus on Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, but we will be expanding to include international issues as well. It will be bilingual, in English and Arabic.

Hey everyone,
This is a reminder that the newsletter you’ve all come to love is migrating to another website.
If you’ve enjoyed it so far, no worries, you will still get it. In order to do that, please go on The Fire These Times (thefirethisti.me) and add your email in the box thingy at the bottom of the page. You’ll get the usual monthly newsletter in addition to weekly new podcast episodes.
I (probably) won’t be writing anything before January anyway, so I’ll send another reminder next month as well.
Take care ..read more

What started as a relatively small blogging platform for a 20 something year old guy somewhere in Mount Lebanon to rant about the Kafala system ended up becoming so much more (also, #AbolishKafala). For that, I will always be grateful.

Experimental Newsletter #1.
Well, what can I say? I thought I’d do this on a monthly basis but to be honest with you that didn’t work out. How can I turn the emotions, the reflections, the anxieties that are coming out from what’s been happening into neatly packaged blocks that fit some 30 days? When you think about it, it doesn’t make any more sense than how we often think of wildfires as being national issues when the wildfires couldn’t care less about your fictitious national lines. So here’s what I’ll do from now on, and we’ll just see if this works: Every now and then, I’ll write reflecti ..read more

Hey everyone,
I’ve had to make some changes in the program for Hummus For Thought due to the usual financial restrictions, but I’m happy to say that I’m still planning on having those long-form interviews on here eventually with an expected launch date in 2022. I will update when I know more on that front.
I’ll be sending you a separate post straight to your mail every once in a while in addition to the monthly newsletter, but I promise that it won’t be more than monthly as well. So at most you should expect two emails per month, but it’ll usually be just the one.
