Hybrid learning has been hanging over education, shaping strategy and defining lesson delivery — so much so that educators wondered whether it’d subside. While schools largely feel more prepared for any future remote or hybrid periods, the classroom isn’t going anywhere — it’s just going in a more modern, digital-first direction. According to the 2021/22 UKI State of Technology in Education Report, 58% of educators predict that, in future, all classes will be taught in person where possible, with a blend of digital and analogue resources. Facilitating hybrid learning capabilities has fallen t ..read more

School strategy setting is a complex task for SLT. It requires balancing a fundamental set of school needs — baseline attainment, budgets, stakeholders and government policies — with the particular evolving needs of their staff and students. How do you increase the quality of teaching and learning while protecting staff and student wellbeing? How can you provide more modern equipment with a limited budget? There’s no one-stop, single solution to these concerns, but there are strategic focuses to guide you. Edtech should underpin them. Pupil maturity has always been an interest of teachers, but usually refers to a studious, conscientious work ethic. However, after a period of lockdown and isolation, educators are more aware than ever how a pupil’s character and academic drive are distinctly separate concerns. Indeed, more are convinced it’s no longer a secondary, incidental focus but a primary facet of their job, and as much a part of a pupil’s education as their final grades. Or is it even more important than that? Pupil wellbeing has deepened from nurturing well-rounded young people prepared ultimately to thrive as adults ..read more

While IT managers have been tackling digital inequity, many teachers have felt overburdened by the challenges of remote teaching and tech access issues. It’s been uncertain whether they still see tech as a force for good, or if it’s just an extra effort they’d rather do without. Will edtech usage decline if educators return to traditional teaching methods they find more manageable and reliable? Or do educators want to deepen their reliance on edtech to support their productivity and pupils’ engagement? The latest stats paint a positive picture. After schools’ objectives were derailed by the disruption of lockdown, they’ve reviewed what’s most important about a pupil’s education. Is it nurturing their growth in a safe environment? Or securing results at the top of the league table? Ahead of the release of our 2021/22 UKI State of Technology in Education report, we explore some of the key findings, and what they tell us about educators’ expectations of exceptionalism. Around the globe, the role of technology in education shifted dramatically in 2020. The immediate necessity to move teaching online was a huge learning curve for teachers, students and parents. But as technologies were rolled out, teething problems were addressed and teachers and students found their stride, and the new found tools kept education in motion for the best part of a year. Now that schools are welcoming most pupils back, the use of technology in classrooms is shifting too. After the year we’ve had, it’s a critical time in schools’ strategy setting. Last year, however, many teachers didn’t feel involved. This may be understandable given the constantly shifting landscape educators have been subjected to over the past 12 months. As schools prepare for the academic year 2021/2022, we’re asking school leaders what they will do to future proof their edtech strategies. Who from the school will be involved and what are the guiding influences? Complete our survey to be a part ..read more

If last year taught us anything, it’s that nothing can truly replace face to face teaching and  learning. Now schools are fully open, teachers and school leaders are looking at ways to redesign the education experience, whilst keeping tried-and-trusted pedagogical concepts in place. In last year’s State of Technology in Education Report, it was agreed by educators that this fast-tracked digitisation of learning has brought huge opportunities, but also significant drawbacks. So, what were the technological enablers and barriers for learning last year? We’re asking teachers and other school ..read more
